S7 LNWR Super D on Ebay

Here's a chance for LNWR fans. JLRT ex LNWR 0-8-0 loco Super D. Scale 7. Portescap motor. Painted not lettered | eBay

It is from the late Don Fields estate, he was to my mind one of the Grandfathers of S7 who was an influence on me and I suspect many others to model in S7 standards and is fondly remembered by everyone who knew him especially the East Anglian Area Group as Don was one of our members who worked on Love Lane during the early days of the build.

Hi Col,

very nice loco but not quite my bag.

When I looked at the listing, I noticed that it is in 'G Scale locos' which probably explains why I had not seen it in the 'O Gauge locos' listing, might not get the exposure that it deserves where it is.

regards

Mike

Yes, I noticed that also, I don't have any connection with the sale but I know who has and will mention it to them.

I have spoken to the person selling the above loco and they say that they would consider any serious offers for the loco before any bids are placed on Ebay.
If anyone is interested in doing that then they would prefer email contact for that rather than through Ebay, I can give the contact details.

I have to say that's an absurdly inexpensive loco bearing in mind the quality of the build and the general crap we see on ebay. Please believe me when I say this is not a sideways knock at S7, but is that the reason the price is so low? That loco would fit so well on any layout based in the '50s and in to the '60s and based pretty well anywhere on the West Coast as far as the Welsh borders.

Brian,
I believe it was more a come and get me starting bid as you often see in auction houses. It's worth more than 250 nicker any day ( wheels and motor/gearbox alone ) but S7 is admittedly a limited market.

It would be useful to know the minimum radius O gauge locos will negotiate when being put up for sale. I fear this one wont go round Peco 3' 4" radius Settrack haha.

Looks nice and well built and also it looks like fine scale width frames so it wouldn't take much to convert to fine scale and still have room for side play.

Well, maybe not, looking at the photos there's a lot of room between the wheel rears and the axle boxes.

Mick,
Agreed on the tender but with F/S BtB measurement of 29mm I think it would be tight on any side play needed on the loco chassis but then there would be the slop in the track as well I suppose.

Agreed and you'd have to question why....if you were a S7 modeller.....however, if it has the option to be fudged, it might garner more interest and a higher sale price.

I have the set track on my micro layout in fudge scale. Never again shall I use them. Even with short WB stock they are a pain. From now on in 5ft minimum even for industrials.
I would love the loco but it's just to big for anything I would run.

It does say in the listing "not convertable to O Gauge due to frame width".
Just the one bid so far..
