Breaking news in from Tower Models

We have just been informed that Heljan have increased the price of the forthcoming Tanker B's, VAA Vans and OAA Open Wagons to £84.95 each. We are therefore increasing our price to £70.00 each or £65.00 each when ordering 10 or more on a mix-or-match basis. Anyone who has pre-ordered these wagons and wishes to alter his order should do so in the next couple of months as they have also now introduced a seventh version of the tanker B.

Oh dear. Those of you who placed a pre-order then I'll be in touch

Yes it's a bit disappointing, I've had to contact all my customers now to tell them there's a price increase, that's the joy of having things produced in China, I wonder how much the locos will go up by

I personally think they've had a massiv esurge of pre-orders so thought 'why not' and abruptly cashed in

Perhaps, but given what's just happened in China the effects are now beginning to penetrate the Western markets. EG, look at what's just happened to Bachmann products. I'm sure everything Chinese produced will rise soon so wouldn't be surprised to see HJ's loco prices increase.

Part of this price increase is not new news though.
I found a Heljan flier issued with some parts from Howes a few months ago and the SRP on that for the wagons was over a tenner more than the SRP on Tower Models website, one wonders why they did not update the price sooner?

How much will the diesels be going up to?

TBH they are beginning to price themselves out of the market already for me, especially with the number of errors that most classes they have produced have had.

Hi Phil,

I said I would think, not that they definitely will increase their prices given the changes in the Chinese economy and working conditions. This is my inference given how Chinese worker conditions are shifting to be akin to Westernised ones. It's not just the model railway industry that will be affected, it'll affect global commerce absolutely.

Essentially, workers rights are shifting towards those in Western countries in terms of workers rights, hours, pay, pensions, etc. So it's inevitable that products prices over here will increase, or product quality will decrease to keep costs down. It's something that's been gathering pace over the last few years.

I think Bachmann have stated that on average their 4mm stuff will be going up by 20% due to wage increases etc so sooner or later the others will do something similar. A few years from now maybe " Made in India" will become common, or "Made in Cambodia" even? For all warranty claims contact Mr Pol Pot :),

Hi Steve , & anyone else

Is this the same type of tanker....
The first one looks like it might be, but it's pretty hard to tell. The second one definitely isn't, that's a much older wagon, and I'd also be extremely surprised if that was a 45 tonner, 25 would be closer to it.
