7mm Parky's Workbench

We don't give lines to customers! - instead you get lots of small parts to assemble!

I have been looking for decent 'scissors' to remove all the tiny etched pieces from the dogfish fret. (The cutters I have been using are now consigned to the bin)I was going to invest in a top end pair of Xuron scissors. However, I was informed that perhaps embroidery scissors are useful?

Yeah that is my next purchase and probably a magnifier to work with all those tiny parts that David has in the post for me

These are what I use. You can cut through the tags, hard up against the edge of the part - and little or no further cleaning up is required.

This question came up maybe two years back... with some recommendations. Sorry, I do not remember the topic within which the subject was discussed, I recollect that Dave Parkins had something to say on the subject as did several other WTers. Hopefully Daifly shall be along soon and provide a link.

It is probably the long-slumbering RMB build I started. 2016 might just be the year the model gets finished. No, really. I mean it.

*uncrosses fingers*

I hope someone can find it in the archives of Area 51!

Thanks David.
I have tracked the Fiskar variety down to Hobbycraft, which is 1/2 mile down the road.
I checked the boss's embroidery scissors and although made by Fiskars are labelled 'Wilkinson Sword' as well.
Just snuck said scissors out to the workshop/garage/pit (as called by domestic authorities ) had a go on some spare etch and I can confirm they work perfectly.
Thanks for the recommendation

I've been beaten to it!
I bought a pair of the Fiskar embroidery scissors that David Parkins recommended and have been very pleased with them.

Just bought a pair of Fiskar ones the way home and good I did. Waiting for me at home was a set of David's finest BR1 bogies

You weren't wrong David, those etches are packed with so many small pieces. This is going to be quite a challenge, but looking forward to it

Just checked Fiskars share price.....just gone through the roof!

Now we have all gone out and bought a pair (or two in my case :() we can all take up needlecraft as well :D

Are your exquisite bogies going to work for a living, or are they purely ornamental? :))

I bought some too, they definitely speed up making those Dog and Catfish wagons.

Maybe I should buy some for Heather to help with the RMB

Over the last three weeks we have cut up over 200 18-24" x 12" etched sheets with them [kit packing]. Probably cut up 2000+ sheets now and they still seem as sharp as the day we purchased them.

In the way of further recommendations -

These are a very good price and I got two for spares, sent from this vendor - very good service BTW. They can twist if abused, as stated in one of the reviews, which is why I got extra ones - but if you just use them for the intended use I don't think this would happen. I do nearly all bending of parts with these - only using folding bars or a Hold & Fold for the longer folds.

One word of caution - neither these pliers or the scissors are probably best for kits built like the Brick Proverbials - but the whole ethos of our kits is to use thinner material for fineness of surface detail, laminating where required.
