Oh, nice. I have a hankering to do a milk tank with one of these platforms. Even more of a fiddle in 4mm, I imagine and, in fact, I quite fancy builing a model of this rarity, an LMS tank fitted with one, W44251:

Note the tilted tank, too. That's a project for later this year (and which will work out relatively expensive with all the bits...) - have you seen this one @jjnewitt?

Hi Adam,
I don’t know how anyone can assemble one of these in 4mm scale  I’m struggling with 7mm!
I love milk tankers and there is such a mixture to choose from. It’s handy that most of them got scattered around the regions, which gives us more variety and choice.
These platforms will make up into end platforms. The platform in your photo looks much the same:)
CRT do further 7mm examples, but I don’t know how good their kits are.

No I haven't come across that one. Nice LMS milk tank. The chassis looks like it was from a D.1994 when built, going by the number, and has had a tank swap at some point. The tank looks to have lost its lagging as well. I've done the artwork for 3D printing the sloping tank saddles for both the LMS and GWR tanks, I should really get that all up on Shapeways. I had hoped to resin cast them but zero time for that at the moment. About the only thing I haven't done that I intended to for the milk tanks are the LMS style platforms. These were a different arrangement to the GWR/SR ones.

I'd wager that the lagging was lost after it passed from milk traffic (but I'm not hugely au fait with these things). The platform looks quite similar (but mirrored) to the GW version, but not identical.

I only recently asked over on Rmweb about CRT’s milk tanks as I’d like to make a rake up for my new project. I’ve now seen some nice pictures of completed tanks and they dook look good. Might not be as detailed as the slaters though

The platforms fitted at the end of the tanks always came in mirrored pairs and were arranged so that the ladder was towards the centre of the wagon. This was the same for both the GWR/SR and LMS versions. The GWR/SR ones fitted at the centre of the tank were almost always arranged so the ladder was to the right on both sides.

Following a bout of flu and a continuing chest infection, I’m not really in the zone to add the transfers yet. However, I thought it would be nice to see the coach in one piece as it were while I fully recover.
Glazing in duckets is ‘glue & glaze’

It is a lovely little coach and a joy to build. I’ll pop a photo up once the transfers are on next week.

The Railtec transfers are very good. However, the running number I wanted wasn’t provided, so a little cutting and shunting took place.

Once the coach is varnished and weathered, I’ll re-fit the glazing and corridor connector rain covers. In the mean time, it’s back to the tankers :)

A question if I may. I presume the duckets on the Stove are the same as in my kit for the 50' bogie van, lost wax castings and the body side with no aid to positioning, therefore how did you glaze them please? Nice piece of work.

It should probably be the dirtiest item of rolling stock in my collection, but I can’t bring my self to apply the grime just yet

It looks good and I would just give it a light weathering.

A daft question - were the droplight frames on the prototype maroon as well?

Those springs and hanger castings on the Stove are very nice, I wonder if Sidelines would sell them separately..?!

What is the length of the springs if I may ask?

JB.

Hi Martin,
I used ‘Glue & Glaze’ stretched across the openings. It dried in a few minutes and is perfectly clear and flat.

Richard
