I think you might have to get on the TurboCAD forum; you're using a Mac aren't you? It's therefore fairly safe to say that any advice Simon or I could offer as Windoze users might not apply.
What you're experiencing would sound to me like an inadequate GPU ('graphics card') if it was happening on a PC.
For a start make sure all other applications are turned off. It may help to set yourself up with a fresh CAD-only profile that doesn't launch things like updates, itunes or Siri, which will otherwise be sitting in the background using up memory.
In the PC version then the chain line Simon describes can be useful, but that's not a necessity if your drafting is accurate. Of course, inaccurate drafting can also be a reason for long processing times on rendering.
If you're at Reading today then drop by the stand and I'll try and help further.

Fills have always been a bugbear on TC. I’ve no idea what the Mac version is like, I recall hearing “nothing like the windows version”
Happy to post V12/V15 screenshots over the weekend, or V21 shots next week.

TurboCad for Mac is a complete non-starter. So I'm using TC Deluxe V17 on Windows Vista, on Parallels on an iMac.
I only use TC Mac on my laptop to draw the lines. Despite the cost, that's all it's good for.
I shall definitely look at QCAD and draftsight. If I can import a DXF it may still be possible to make a difference.

Sorry Simon, that wasn't the implication I was aiming for! More along the lines of 'if you're good, lucky and careful you won't need to do this'.

Your lengthy rendering times may be a function of the amount of co-processing required to run in an emulated environment. I'm not 100% certain how to get round that with any package, but it may help to try some different packages to see what happens.

Thanks Steph, I will hopefully get the opportunity to try on John Birch's machine. I've just lost another hours work after TC crashed.
What frustrates me is that I can retouch a 100gb image off the Hasselblad in Photoshop in not time at all, but try and fill a circle with a single colour in TC and it makes you want to throw the machine out of the window!

And what you've described is the difference between vector and raster graphics, Macs have always been good at the latter...

I recommend QCAD for Mac and PC. Easy to use, fully featured and cheap. Also possible to connect directly to lasercutters etc.

There I was about 45 minutes ago, and I thought to myself, I'll just check quickly to see if there are any video tutorials on YouTube to show how to do a fill in QCad, and some very helpful chap by the name of Adrian Cherry (no idea who he is...) has posted a few videos..
So I thought I would import the D16 dxf/dwg file into QCad and see what occurs. I can't use the words I want to use on this forum, but WOW, what a program, and so much more powerful than TurboCad from what I can see so far.
What I really like is the auto-polyline tool which is extremely clever. Also how the program shows the shortcomings in the TurboCad draughting by telling you the co-ordinates of the gaps in the lines when you try to do a fill.
30 minutes ago I bought a full version for 33 Euro's! I reckon I'll have all the fills done by tomorrow evening so long as I get a good run at it!

If you can't undo it with the undo command: Select the polyline. Explode object.
