7mm Shelby Wood Sidings

I decided to build a small O gauge lay out, with the intention of being able to buy and run a few loco's and also to show how easy it is to build a basic lay out and fit O gauge into a small area.

I opted for set track, hand operated points and a shunting lay out based on 'Inglenook Sidings' but with an extra track so I had an excuse to bring on any loco to re coal, take on water or fill up with Diesel.

The lay out is 9'6" by 2'. The length to the tunnel entrance is 7'6" I spent 7 weeks building it from start to a finished working lay out. I am very new to the hobby and am not very skilled so all of what I have done has had to be easy.
It was built on plywood which sits directly on top of draws, it was done like that because I needed to keep my cloths off the floor, apparently lol.

After the 7 week build (photos below show first day and Day 49) I continued to add people and more bushes/trees etc, however this was not needed but I thought it looked better.
My wife as since added curtains to hide the draws.

I went for a shunting type because it keeps people occupied for a couple of hours just building a five wagon train. Once you add in the extra track to give yourself access to all loco types, you end up with a very useful lay out in not to much space. Plus it does not take to much building ;)

What track are you using? Is it Peco and if it is are the points the medium radius points or are they Peco's set track points? If they are does your Dapol Pannier negotiate them OK.
Sorry for all the questions, but as I said in my last post I am going down the O gauge road and any info is valuable.

Whoops, sorry John just re-read your original post saying you used set track points,I assume Peco. I'd still like to know how well your panniers cope with 42 inch radii.

Flippen heck Alan, I have only just seen this. Sorry.

My Panniers cope really well with the set track points radii. So far I have had no problems what so ever with them or any of my other loco's. I have a Dapol 08, Heljan 61xx and a Master Piece Models 45xx and they are all fine too.

As John's photos show, apart from the brake van, all the vehicles are the of similar length over the buffers therefore shunting on Peco O scale set track with a pannier tank and vehicles shown (including brake van) should not present a problem even on a reverse curve.

Spot on Dave :)

I have had no problems with buffer lock, the springs on the buffers and coupling hooks do their job well.

Hi John.
Thanks for sharing this, the layout is superb. The whole scene melds together so well - the colours, scenics, weathering, stock etc - it really is superb. It also shows what can be achieved in a relatively small space in an average home. Exactly the kind of thing I would like to attempt in due course. Inspirational stuff so please share some more photos when you can! :)
