I am on he verge of buying a 70xx, 7033 Hartlebury Castle in O Gauge from Master Piece Models. My wife is from Hartlebury and we were married in the church there. I also have very found memories of many a visit to Hartlebury Castle, all of which is by the by.

I can not decide weather to have the single or double chimney (fitted in July 1959) version. Being in discussion with my wife over which one 'we' like the best and still undecided.

Which one do you prefer the look of?7007_1.jpg 4088_1.jpg

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder of course.

Duchesses and A4s have to have double chimneys, A3s not so sure, Castles single every time:)

I’m torn as I like both just as much!
I have one of each!
For me it’s single chimney Hawksworth tender Double chimney Collett tender!!
I did have my double chimney castle built first so I guess that one edges it.
Either way it’s a stunning loco. The best as far as I’m concerned

I'm with Dog Star, for sure the single chimney for looks, but if you've ever had to shovel coal on a Castle, then the double chimney every time. In fact just about every loco with a double chimney went better, to hell with the look of the thing.

In both photos, from the angle taken, the double chimney just looks like a very large diameter single chimney.

Go with the single chimney.

Cheers,
Peter

I have just paid John of Master Piece Models for Hartlebury Castle. I bought the single chimney version :)

I can have the loco, still be fed, not have to do my own washing and not have to sleep in the shed all thanks to the members of this forum (plus a couple of other forums) who voted single chimney because I can blame you which also means Mrs PT will not be putting anything nasty in my morning Coffee :D
