He was with me and I definitely saw Dewerstone as anything with Renwick Wilton coal wagons and a Laira toad gets my radar. My photos I took of it are on the thread on RMweb.

So what colour is your loincloth?

When I built Wencombe I had Kitchen cupboards underneath the layout, standard height but without the kick boards. I did put them on castors sothat if I needed to work underneath the layout I could roll them out of the way. It seemed to work quite well.

I'm a fan of putting things on castors. The whole of PD loco is on 4 (reasonably rigid) legs with 75mm castors at the bottom. I put braked ones on the front and ordinary ones at the back - there's a long term plan to move it to a permanent railway room which is not yet built, but I would expect to leave it moveable, if not mobile, even then. I hope to build the other "modules" in a similar way.

It allows the whole layout to be moved out from the wall to address scenic work at the back - and fix problems if there are any.

Not something you'd want to do often, and needs two pairs of hands, but...

The Pencarrow kitchen cupboards are standard height and use standard kitchen adjustable feet and have a plinth (contiboard not the kitchen version as it was a fraction of the cost).

The run of cupboards is 5.3m long and they are all fixed to one another but not the walls.

As the layout is about 970mm deep and the units only 600mm there was a potential tipping issue. There was also a potential issue with the doors catching the underside of the layout if everything wasn't 100% true. Plus an access issue getting under the rear of the boards if placed directly on the units.

To address these issues I made a ladder framework out of 75mm stud wall timber. The long rear lengths were levelled and fixed directly to the wall. The ladder 'rungs' were fixed to that at a regular spacing and the long front lengths attached to that.

Overall the framework is about 750mm deep which supports the layout well. The framework supports the 970mm deep baseboards well at the edge - no chance of tipping off. The 75mm studwork frame also gives access under the layout to reach bolts etc. The other advantage is that the boards can be slid along the ladder framework to any position that suits what I want to work on.

As the boards are now quite high and deep it does make working on the rear a bit of a pain in the back. So if I want to do a lot of work on a board I slide it off the ladder framework and place it in the middle of the room on trestles which gives me access to all sides.

My original plan was to place the scenic boards on a pair of freestanding units with casters underneath. In the end though I decided that this just over complicated things and visually didn't suit the use of the room as an occasional bedroom.

Very pleased with the solution I've used.

Easing myself back in to it gently by making up the guttering and downpipes for the wharf buildings. Downpipes from 2mm dia plastic, hoppers and holderbats from Modelu, and the guttering from plastic U channel.

The sixth is the first to have been drilled at the rear to insert a length of brass wire. This will be used to help pin the 3d printed bits to the building as glue joints alone can be a bit weak.

Will be attending the Railwells show this coming Sunday.

Went for the first time last year, bit of a trek but well worth it.
