The Virtual Show on 31st October 2020 will include a Virtual Modelling Competition. Entries will be viewable in a Flickr Album via a link on the Virtual Show Technical Area. Winners will be chosen by public vote on an accompanying voting form.

Categories are the same as for the Guildex competition:

A - Locomotives

B - Rolling Stock

C - Scenery

D - Modern Image

Entry is easy:

1. Send up to 4 pictures (jpegs only) of your model AS EMAIL ATTACHMENTS in a single email to nickdunhill@talktalk.net

2. Write a brief description of your model (150 words maximum) in Microsoft Word and attach it to the above email.

To vote for your favourite in each category just click the link to the voting form and make your selection. The winner in each category will be announced at 4 pm at the Virtual Show. The winner in each category will receive a trophy by post.

Entry is open now and will close on 24th October 2020. Models entered into this Virtual Competition will also be eligible for entry into the next Guildex. The competition is open to non-members of the Guild.

Just to clarify the very last line Nick, this does mean as a non-member I could enter one of my 7mm buildings?

I reckon you'll have a shed load of entries, Nick. That's a great thing, IMHO.

The competition at Guildex is always interesting but when one has other concerns over the two days remembering to bring something to display or with which to compete escapes me! I'll be in this year, though.:D

That's the first couple of entries sent, Is there a time limit on when things have been completed? I should have entered my 26 last year but didn't as I didn't realise non members could enter!

Having failed to enter the Guildex competition all the time I was a Guild member, I think I’ll drop some builds in for fun.

Hi Al. There's no time limits at all, but entries must be in my inbox by 24th Oct to give the organisers and myself a chance to get the show pages in order and tested to destruction!

Hi Heather send as many entries as you like! No limits and yes it was very remis of you not to enter in the past ;)! (hope you're well.)

Hi All, please send more Modern Image entries. RTR conversions/superdetailing jobs very welcome.

I don't want to start the third world war, Nick. But I'll submit some stuff and you can decide where it goes. In the best possible taste, of course.

I've seen fights to the death on the GOG Forum about this question, rattles thrown out of prams and season tickets thrown on the pitch.

It's much nicer here without civil war!

To my mind if we have to term anything modern image it could be said to be post '55 ? . We had the start of electrification of lines, re-signalling, new freight rolling stock and diesel locomotives. But at the same time I'd class a BR standard 9F as 'modern image, these just get in by being introduced in '54 the last one '60 :D

Off topic, I know, but years ago I proposed the UK railway modelling scene should devise similar date breaks like the Germans do with epochs. I think one of the UK mags uses some kind of period notation.

Back on topic now. Nick, I presume the various links will be made public nearer the time of the main event?

Yes the links for photos of models and the voting form will be on the Virtual Show front page. It'll be obvious (honest!) but they won't appear before the day of the show.

This caused me to stray even further off topic by pondering via the www what epoch an Ewok from Star Wars might belong to.
So far I have found two options - 1627 or around 9 million years after the Big Bang. At this point I gave up.
