No firm plans to do anything specific this year but only to actually do something.

As I picked up 100 Hornby wheelsets for £2.99 a pkt of 10 from Hobbycraft on Monday I started the year by swapping wheels over on 27 assorted wagons and coaches in part of my 'Classic Hornby/Triang-Hornby Collection' last night.
Most of these models are boxed but the wheels have generally seen better days and will most likely not run on more modern track so I have made a start so that I can play with run them at an unspecified point in the future.

Not sure what to do this evening though.......

Okay... the New Year approaches, so as is becoming traditional here, following on from last year's Topic What Projects do you have for 2011..? let's update things accordingly.

Looking back at my own post there I'm quite amazed at how much I actually did manage...

... and I'm still allowed in Western Thunder..!!!!! :p :D

So what for me for 2012...?
1) Finish my "Progressive Rail" HO fleet for the Trent Valley Show in June.
2) Detail my two HO Soo Line locos.
3) Keep on learning the DCC witchcraft.
4) Keep going with my HO Loft Layout (i.e. don't waste all the time up there just playing trains!!)

Just a couple of O Scale things....
5) Keep saving for the Heljan 7mm Class 31 (and not dipping into the fund for DCC decoders!!)
6) Finally... and I'm making no promises here... finally get somewhere with my 7mm Class 14... :shit:

Over to you.......

First for this year-try not to buy any more wagons/wagon kits/wagon salvage jobs (unless they're bagains!) (Oops already slipped up here:oops: Damn you #bay.) . Second try and finish some of my un-finished projects, in S either the 04 (kit) or the Planet (scratchbuild), in EM the High Level 03 chassie or in O one of my Manning Wardles. Have I mentioned wagons??

John.

This year I will be mostly into rubber. (Apologies, couldn't find a gimp smiley)

My fetish for tiny trains has come to the fore again; the arrival of Iron Sherpa 1 has swung the pendulum towards the Indian two foot gauge and away from the French 60cm stuff. I'm at the early stages in mastering one of the Darjeeling Railway tea vans in plasticard, the aim being to knock out resin copies. So far it's sharpened up my model making, the fusspot in me not wanting to perpetuate visible bodges in every casting. Once there's something worth showing I'll post progress on my distractions thread.

Whilst not exactly modelling and possibly not even deserving a mention on WT I can report that I have replaced well over 120 wheelsets on my Triang and Triang-Hornby collection so far this year.
I've enjoyed cleaning up all the second hand rolling stock that I've picked up over the past couple of years and a visit to a toy fair a couple of weeks ago brought even more goodies to my collection.
The long-term aim has always been for it to be a 'Living Collection' that can be run rather and relive those childhood Hornby catalogue dreams rather than just being stuck in boxes.
I may consider investing in some Ultrascale wheelsets for one or two of the locos too in case I do actually get as far as building a small layout.
Even more shockingly I have to admit that of the three locos I've bought this year none have been diesel outline!!!!

For more serious stuff my Connoisseur starter loco and Tower 02 still beckon; I've tinkered with a few parts and carried out 'dry-runs' but the motivation to pick up the soldering iron for construction has yet to be found.
Following on from some recent comments about enjoyment in the hobby; I am enjoying my train collection at the moment and even if it isn't proper modelling I am making a point of doing things and having fun doing them which ultimately is what it is all about :)

Just a thought...

Who is going to complete their personal Diamond Jubilee first/this year?

Come on Richard, just needs a lik'o paint, do not even have to get the engine dirty.

Hi Graham

Nice segue from the current theme of the day. The trouble is, I got stuck into Heyside, which needs a number of smaller black locos rather more than an extremely unlikely visitor! Maybe in the summer I shall get round to it.....

My main ambition, if I can tear myself away from the computer for long enough, is to tidy up my workbench so I can (a) find out just how many unfinished projects are lurking there out of sight, and (b) actually do some work on them.

But first I have to sort out photos for the book, at least one more visit to the archives, and then it'll be Newsletter time again....

Ma'am seems to be doing rather well.... I hope that Her Majesty will be pleased to see your Thoroughbred past the post before the last race is run this year, ;) .

Oopps, guess that means the platform permit has been cancelled, .

Ooh, a list, I like lists. Here's mine:

Start building the groundwork for a new micro layout
– most of the baseboard is complete, I just need a turnout to start trackwork

Rebuild a Class 31 I bought by mistake
– HolymotherofGod, that is going to take a while and span several yearly updates...

Restore (and maybe repaint) a mistreated Heljan Class 47
– One method of removing paint tried, a second yet to be tested

Convert Triang Hymek to finescale
– have everything I need but railway time consumed by the 31 (see above) and 47

Sell everything I don't need or haven't got time for
– see ebay in a couple weeks!

That's me done. All of the above is O gauge.

Oooh.... Update Time is it..?? :)

Ah, well let's see...

So what for me for 2012...?
1) Finish my "Progressive Rail" HO fleet for the Trent Valley Show in June. Done :D
2) Detail my two HO Soo Line locos. Not started, except DCC fitted
3) Keep on learning the DCC witchcraft. Still a steep learning curve, that one...
4) Keep going with my HO Loft Layout (i.e. don't waste all the time up there just playing trains!!) Ongoing.

Just a couple of O Scale things....
5) Keep saving for the Heljan 7mm Class 31 (and not dipping into the fund for DCC decoders!!) Dapol 08 taking preference; doubt I'll afford a 31 when it's released.
6) Finally... and I'm making no promises here... finally get somewhere with my 7mm Class 14... :shit: Nope. Still in The Cupboard of Doom. :(
Other projects have added themselves to the list or taken priority...
1) Detailing an Athearn CF7 as Minnesota Commercial Railroad #484 Nearly finished :)
2) Work on "Withyn Reach" to make it 'Loft Friendly'. Fiddleyard to do
3) Plan & build a new US-outline O Scale Shunty Plank for Trent Valley Show in 2013 Only 350 days to go!!!

and something happened that wasn't really a project as such, and did take me slightly by surprise....
 I sold my S.B. Class 22.... innocent0009.gif scared0012.gif scared0016.gif
