Funny how I aways like watching those old WW2 Air Combat films, taken from Tempests and Mustangs as they go train-busting..... those kettles don't half blow steam with a few 50-calibres put through 'em....
How about yellow prop spinners ???!!!...as good as ...nearly !!???
I distinctly said Tempests and Mustangs... could add Typhoons, Thunderbolts, Spitfires, Mosquitos and more to the list - all Allied aircraft and not a yellow nose between them....
........just to prove that some Green Meanies have more than one annorak !!!!I dunno if any Allied aircraft had yellow spinners... white sometimes, or red, but not yellow...
I read one account by an 8TH Air Force man; his crew decided to liven up their B-17 a bit by painting the engine cowls red - it brought them too much attention - from the Luftwaffe!! They were lucky to get back from their next mission and the first thing they did on return was get the parrafin out and remove the red paint..!!!
Don't worry it just a trick as they don't realise that is an undercoat for a fresh BLUE paint job. They are pouring green paint on me Deltic please hurry
Tis true but remember we ended up with blue cos they cocked it up when they applied yellow to green. When the powers that be saw the result green went out the window pretty sharpish as they realized what a stunning colour blue was Seemples
HUMPH!!!!!!!!! stuff and nonsense if you ask me the answer was in longevity, how long did the green era(diesels) last compared to the blue era and did they look after them when painted any other colour but BLUE No! is the short answer.
And they tried to disguise them, too - look at what lengths Stratford went to....... But that was only so they could sneak up and ambush the last Green ones......They didn't even look after them in Blue they were a state.......
Nice, well worn and unloved just about sums Wizzo's up don't it
