"Dapol Dave" probably has his hand's full "Over There"....:D where I note a similar silence on this particular subject.

Aye, it's a fairly well established modus operandi now - lap up the praise in the threads where things are going well, ignore the ones that are full of awkward questions.

I dont see why people feel the need to costantly "slag off " manufacturers products.

At the end of the day it is down to CHOICE, if you dont like a particular product then you DONT BUY it, if you like the product then BUY IT.......................... SIMPLES.

We all have different levels of skill and ability and funding so its not all about whether a vehicle has the correct number of rivets or not, its down to that particular modeller's skill, ability or cash at the time.

Agreed. However, in this case the discussion seems to be about why a pretty well-known manufacturer allowed fundamental flaws through to production, when it would have taken just the same amount of time to get it right.

It's all very well saying "don't buy it" or "most buyers won't care", but the point is there is no excuse for such errors to be made at all. For a little bit of extra effort, Dapol could have produced an accurate model to please everyone at the same price point as a flawed one.

Yes Heather i agree. It is a shame that more care is'nt taken when producing a model. But the constant slagging off , in my opinion, is only going to cause more bad feeling than good.

Heljan have been told on numerous occasions about things being incorrect but they have not done anything about it, so have they got the view of " This is what you get for your money, Take it or leave it" .

I appreciate that this is not a very good way to trade and you are correct in what you say but i dont think they will alter the way they operate.:(

I would have to agree. The Dapol wagons aren't particularly good and I won't be buying any but it gets a bit tedious when the chearleader of those running them down is a commercial rival who is quite obviously making the most of it.

While I am grateful for the heads-up on the problems with the wagons - and it is important that such information be made available - I do wonder whether we are now just repeating what has been said before.

How about Adrian starting a workbench thread, and showing us the construction of some of his excellent wagons or other products?

Hi all, I am quite happy that if people decide they want to buy something that looks very attractive without
wishing to know if the model is accurate or good value for money, that is their choice. The real point is that
if they have no expertise at all to judge the quality of a product, would they NOT like to have the opinion of
others or be given FACTS upon which to make their own judgement. If they ignore these opinions and
go ahead anyway they may find later that they wish they had taken advice, perhaps when they try to sell
the item and find it's value is very low, or when THEIR expertise has increased.
At the moment there is no model railway "Which" and, as I have tried to explain, the reviews in most
magazines, if or when they ever appear, may not be the truth, the whole truth or even anything resembling
the truth. Although only a few people join forums like this, it seems strange that some of those that do are
unhappy to see adverse criticism about the products being discussed in that very forum. If they insist on
making their buying decisions based purely on their own opinion it seems rather pointless joining a forum.
They may, of course, be hoping to find that all the contributors are praising the product, thus reinforcing the
choice they have made and are thus rather disgruntled to find the exact opposite. Regards Adrian

'Slagging off', eh - quite an emotive phrase IMHO.

This is a very tiresome argument that I must have now had on ever forum I've ever been on, but it is indeed a matter of choice - informed choice. If you know about the faults, you can make your own decision - whether to buy, whether to live with the errors, whether they're something you can alter yourself. But if peer pressure on a particular forum has the effect of shutting people up (as I sense is going to happen here) then the buyer is arbitrarily denied that choice, and mediocrity will rule.

Might I remind you Rob, that you have much the same choice - if you dont want to read negative reviews, dont open the thread. Simples.

(And please note, I dont need to resort to capitals to get my point across. I always understood that that was tantamount to shouting, and hence poor Netiquette).

... but it gets a bit tedious when the chearleader of those running them down is a commercial rival who is quite obviously making the most of it.

Ah, the old 'vested interest' dig again. I think that's actually quite a cheap comment.

Maybe Adrian just cares about the subject, Jerry. If I'd been in the game as long as he has, I know I would.

Hi all, Not sure that this forum is the right place to give comprehensive details on how to build my kits, apart
from which I don't know how to add pictures and since they are worth a thousand words I am not sure a
ten thousand word post ( or more) would get many readers Yawn! Yawn! beyond page 1. ( don't even
know how to add the funny little----- ah! thats how you do it !
