Thanks,Steve,I love model engineering,Railway locos and stock are my main interest,But i do like a nice showmans engine,
I built this years ago,It is a 2 inch scale Burrell special scenic showmans road loco, sits at the end of my workshop
and when im not doing any work,i just sit in there with a pint and have the canopy lights on.

Thanks Steve, I was hoping for an address
PM sent.
If anyone else wants to know where the DSMEE track is please PM me.
DSMEE don't publicise their location on their own website (most likely for reasons of security), so I think we should respect that here.

Sounds a nice way to pass the time :) Was it a scratch build job or a kit?

I'm rather partial to traction engines (understatement!) - I even had a tour around Steam Traction World last year and having got to within a gnats whisker of deciding what to go for - I then lost my ruddy build space :( Currently having to make do my drooling over my mates 4" SCC engine and hoping to blag a drive when its done. He's getting a Lykamobile steam car next so I suspect I shall be offering a hand when its needed :)

Maybe in another couple of years I'll get round to having the space and the money...

Edit to put in correct company name..muppet, brain thinks one thing, fingers type another!

Hi Steve,It was scratch built many years ago,And when you get the space mate,go for it get a Traction engine the bigger the better,I had a 3 inch scale marshall,I sold it to help pay my sons uni fees,But i had some great fun with it,do not get anything under 3 inch scale ,too much bending for your back, and hard work for the engine on anything other than tarmac,so your mates 4 inch scale would be a great size, and i have seen some great ones on station road steam, and life is short, go for it,

Thanks Garry, you have my respect for building that :)
I came to the same conclusion size wise, got to be at least a 3" engine although I'd prefer a 4". A bit academic at the moment though as I've run out of garage space - between the 1/3 scale Lister, the machine tools and the embryonic Sweet Pea there isn't a lot of room left. Its a lot of fun though :)

Constructing Wagons
Doug Hewson
HRMS 2017
arrived this week.

300+ pages, maybe a couple of thousand photos, plus detailed A2 drawings, all in a stout box within the card mailing packet.

In round numbers:
40 pages: Introduction, Background, Materials, Components
35 pages:Brake Gear
130 pages: Choice of wagons
100 pages: Wagon Construction
7 pages: Weathering

Wagon types drawn to 2.5" gauge (dimensioned in inches for 5" gauge):
LMS Open
GWR Open
1923 RCH Mineral
BR Mineral
LNER Van
BR Van
GWR Van
LMS Van
SR Van
BR Low
BR Med
BT Open
GWR Brake
LMS Brake
LNER Brake
Even if you make none of the above, the book will show you how to make at least some of the wagons of your choice.

It's not easy to distinguish model photos from prototype photos.

If you aspire to detailed British wagons, in any scale, just buy it.

To continue a thread conversation, I too have a penchant for traction engines. Of course, Steve Baldock who contributes amazing things to the S7 threads, is the co-owner and designer at Steam Traction World. I have their scenic showmans and have done lots of fun things with it. Thoroughly recommended.

They are so secure that I'd been chatting model engineering with DSMEE members for over forty years before getting an invitation :) And I live only five miles from it. David
