Kettering amendments

I hope that I am not tread on anybody's toes, but this notice appeared on the Guild website last night:

Amendments to list of traders and demonstrators.
Due to unavoidable circumstances, the following are unable to attend.-
T9
Just Like the Real Thing.
D5 Tom Bayes
D6 Steve Baldock
These have been replaced by the following.-
T9
Intentio (www.intentio.co.uk) will be making their first appearance at Kettering, with their laser-cut buildings and track parts.
D5 Rob Bishop will demonstrate the art of resistance soldering
D6 Brian Daniels, who specialises in modern image modelling.
Thanks to those who have stepped in to substitute, and best wishes to those whose non-appearance is due to ill health.

Don Neale (0009) will be in attendance as usual. As one of the founding fathers of the Guild, he will be pleased to chat with anyone about the "good old days", particularly anyone of a certain age who can remember the pre-kit era, when everything had to be scratch-built. His superb Kirtley Branch outdoor line has featured in many magazine articles, books and the Guild Slide Collection. He will be found somewhere near the membership stand. Just mention Leeds Model Co., Bassett-Lowke or stud contact, and you're in!

Dave Smith

regards

It has been reported on the GOG forum that JLTRT has gone into administration/Liquidation or something similar. Not as yet confirmed by JLTRT.

Hi Sandy
This is so far unconfirmed rumour.
The person who posted it has been asked for a source but has not responded.

Please can we keep this thread on topic - i.e. the Kettering show. I have made my position clear on the Guild forum about unsubstantiated speculation, for those without access feel free to PM me if you'd like details. Having been on the receiving end of such speculation when my Dad was trading it's not something I want to countenance on this forum when peoples livelihood are at stake.

So again I emphasise Kettering only replies please and PM me otherwise.

Did anybody go to Kettering today? From reports 'Over There' (i.e. RMweb in case anyone is unfamiliar with the term) it sounds like a bit of a fiasco; an event that probably should've been cancelled, with aprox half the Traders not present, that still charged full entry prices, & closed early!!
It was'nt on my radar to go anyway; just wondered if anyone else bothered?

I had intended to go... and the weather today would not have been a problem. However, I had a short list of five specific traders to see and when all five announced non-attendance then the decision to stay home was an easy one.

Discussions "over there" and on "BR modern image 0-gauge modellers" FB group are chewing the cud on the right and wrong of whatever happened at the event so I shall not clutter WT with such arguments (sorry, not a guild member so not able to consider what might be happening on the guild forum).

I`m afraid it`s The Keyboard Wariors vs Sodding do-Gooders and The Ruling Junta..... on the GOG/FOR at the moment.:'(

I went to Kettering, mainly because I had a delivery to make.
I had an easy journey being minutes from the M1, and both M1 & A14 were fine, in fact very quiet for a Saturday.

The exhibition was also quiet, empty trader tables and attendance not unlike a late Sunday afternoon. And they did close early at 2.45, so I only got just over an hour of spending time ( my fault for leaving home late)

Although I spoke to a couple of traders who had a great day and were very happy, there would have been some/many who wouldnt have covered their costs.

Its very easy to lay the blame and argue what the Guild should have done, I dont have an answer, I think they would be damned either way.

Yes, I wasn't intending to turn this Thread into a 'right or wrong' debate, or about the wider issues that seem to engulf the Guild at times; just interested in the experiences of those who did go. Already Over There a Trader has stated they'd have lost less money if they'd stayed away.

Just got back, it was quiet, both trader and customer, but personally I didn't have much spare time from talking to people, customers or just people asking about current projects and future releases.

No issues travelling there or back, in fact quickest I've ever done it from Felixstowe, though I did dodge the bullet of Friday evenings snow and travel up early afternoon. I was always planning to go Friday but simply adjusted my timing it suit a break in the weather.

I enjoyed it, nice to meet people and chat and the whole show had a feel of good old Dunkirk spirit about it to be honest.

I had typed a post regarding Kettering. having seen Diki's post below I've edited to remove it in case what I thought were fairly innocent remarks offend anyone.

It seems to be a very sensitive subject for reasons I really can't fathom!

If I have offended anyone I apologize. It was not my intention.
