Loco coal wagon.

image.jpeg image.jpeg I just thought I would post a early view on a start of a pair of loco coal wagons for the L.N.W.R.
I have made one already but with painted letters but this pair I am using some cast letters given to me by Mike Williams of gauge 3 fame. They are still in very early stage at present but if I post on here it may spur me on to finish them.

I am pleased with the progress on these loco coal wagons. I now have more than enough cast letters for my needs with with a surplus left over for another 2 wagons. I have contacted Mike Williams to see if he wants any leftovers back but he is more than willing for me to pass on to any other scratch builder who wishes to model these wagons.
I would like them to go to someone who will actually make a model rather than sit in someone's spares and not be used.

A couple of really nice builds Mike. Would the letters have been wooden on the prototype? Are the W irons your own Etch or bought in ?

Mick, I am not sure if they were wood or cast iron. I am awaiting vol 3 of L.N.W.R wagons due out anytime soon which I hope will answer all the remaining questions regarding these and other wagons.
Yes the w-irons are from my own etchings. I have not had any made for about 8 or 9 years and only have a few left in stock.

image.jpeg image.jpeg I have done a bit more today. The buffer bodies have go on and also the loco letters on the second wagon. I have started add detail with the coach bolts on the lower body side. This is going to be a long job because I don't have any v-hangers in stock and I will have to wait untill Telford to acquire more.
I have not had anybody inquire about the spare loco letters.

Very nice Mike. I've not come across Harwood models before. Are they still around, a website maybe?

Haywood Railway have been around for a good few years. They make coach and wagon kits and possibly loco's as well. But they also do wagon buffers for pre-grouping railways. I don't think they have a web page but I could not be sure of that.
