Pleased to join you

Hello to all of you,

I am pleased to be allowed to join you. I am a GWR enthusiast, modelling in 00 and planning as my retirement project my first serious layout, the successes and difficulties of which I would like to share with you.

I have a 12ftx8ft dedicated room with heat, light and power and benefiting from an outward opening door.
I did consider EM, but concluded that EM was not compatible with the space I have. This is made worse by my desire to run express trains, at a reasonable speed, which meant a round and round style of layout, although I accept that 5-6 coach is all I can run.

My prime period for the layout is 1960-2, a period that I remember well from my train spotting days. However I have stock to be able to run alternatively more modern versions such as 1977-9, 1992-4, or 2002-4. I feel careful chose of the tracks to portray, sensible scenic, and showing only the ends of platforms will minimise the compromises of multiple time periods!

My layout is called Partly Maidenhead because it portrays what I see as the operating interest and essentials of Maidenhead's layout, namely the relief lines, yard and High Wycombe Branch, the Main lines being omitted due to lack of space, with a limited number of expresses running on the relief lines.

I have WTTs and carriage working diagrams but have so far not located a copy of the steam/ early diesel Slough Locomotive working diagrams.

If there is interest, I will upload a copy of the layout plan?

Best regards
Paul

Nice idea... what WTTs do you have? for what period?

The branch from High Wycombe is going to give you some interesting traffic, both passenger (4-6-0s when Oxford services were diverted via Princes Risborough) and freight (watch out for the weekly service from Thame Cattle Market... and the Taplow Goods which has been covered in Great Western Railway Journal). BTW the service was known by those on the ground as the Taplow Goods, Mike the Stationmaster is correct when he says that the working was to/from Lent Rise - this was a yard on the up side of the line and to the east of Taplow.

I have the full part A for:- Winter 1954 (Freight), Winter 1958 (Passenger), Winter 1960 (Freight),Winter 1960 (Passenger), and Passenger and Freight London Division Winter 1964, plus various ones for the late 70s, early 90s and early 2000s.
Yes, the Branch workings are interesting but there are other interesting Maidenhead workings such as the 5.40am from Reading Parcels which shunted, then went up the branch to Princes Risborough. Its return working from Maidenhead to Reading at 8.10pm picked up the return of vans off the morning train, which came down the branch on the back of a couple of the passenger turns. (I have a copy of the 1960 Carriage and Parcels van diagrams for the area.)
Also of note are the LEs from Slough for the morning commuter trains from Maidenhead and Bourne End
Another one was the single diesel plus trailer which left its trailer at Maidenhead to take a parcels van up to Aylesbury, swap the parcels van, and return to Maidenhead for its trailer.

But what I really need is a copy of a late 1950s or early 60s Slough Locomotive working diagram Book!

Anyone got one?

Cheers
Paul
