Just noticed the coal scuttle on the verandah. If you're brave - drilling out the top will improve it's appearance. Or alternatively - in the immortal words of the Rolling Stones - paint it black. :)
All will come to pass, because I take all suggestions on board and act on them ~ eventually.

As for the 'fire break, we call it a Toriad Tan Gogogoch isnit yessi boyo.

Painting the large goods shed has not gone well, so I fired off an order for Plastikard yesterday in case I have to scratchbuilt another. White mortar courses on a tiny signal box are one thing and quite another on a large area. I've used everything bar a wire-brush to calm down the appearance and it looks reasonable in sunlight....

............ But dark buildings tend to look depressingly drab in the shed...
WEB Goods shed 4.jpg

I think the overall appearance of the buildings relative to each other look okay, but the colouring needs more attention. I am thinking ahead to the possibility of having a station masters house, a building I do not want to look drab. Some test brickwork is currently drying...

For what it's worth, Larry, I think the goods shed and the platforms and signal box all look good, it's the station that stands out in a crowd. OK, it's a new GW rebuild according to the story, and it's in remote Wales where there is little pollution (other than lashings of rain which does have a decaying midlew effect). But it looks like it should be in red brick Shropshire!

I can see that signal boxes and stations get looked after by their staff, but do goods sheds? Not to the same degree I would suggest. I think the goods shed looks fine!

Your remarks are appreciated Paul and Simond. However, the goods shed is already dismantled; the warped roof was no good anyway. I will probably build a new shed incorporating parts from the laser cut shed to save time, and it will resemble the one at Llanfyllin. I might try to purchase some sheet 'laser' wood to make a roof that will take laser cut slates.

Regarding large laser-cut roofs, I recommend gluing them to the building before applying the laser cut card slates so that the roof won't warp as it dries out.

I'm sure you already know, will you be placing a similar material underneath the laser material to counteract the possibility of warping Larry ?

I'm at a similar stage of thought with my scratch build goods shed and slept on it ( the thought that is ! ) last night.

I wish you well with the rebuild if you're not satisfied but knowing your perseverance you'll get there.

Hi Graham. It would not have warped had it been glued down before the slates were added. Initially it could be bent back because it was still malleable, but the weeks and months passed by before I painted it and so the roof was like a bone.

Building a goods shed from scratch will enable me to build one to a footprint of my choice. The real one loomed large over everything....

You’ve really captured the look of the real thing with your goods shed, Larry.

Reckon you’ll end up building a model of Llanfyllin in the end;)

Keep it coming.

Hello Mr Coach, I thought the goods shed looked great on the pictures you posted, but obviously something about it irked you, hope it's only a blip, and doesn't cause you too much hassle ?

Best regards to you & Mary,
Craig.

Hi Craig, I got too close to this darn shed business last week what with building & painting the small goods shed then deciding to complete the big shed instead. In the cold light of day that the big shed isn't looking so bad after all. I'm now having to patch it up and build a completely new roof.

I lightened the brick colour this morning by adding carmine red and chrome yellow. Ureeka, I have a standard brick colour at last!

The large goods shed was re-sprayed, but BR wagon Grey instead of white was used for the cement courses. Pictured in its lighter brickwork and a new plastkard roof. The plastikard roof is covered with thick copier paper while the edges have bene painted Frames Dirt colour ready for adding the laser-cut slates....

It's that goods shed again ~ Finished this time with lighter bricks and all the trim back in place. Some bubbles in the paper roof covering caused some concern but I needn't have worried. Once the slates dried out, everything shrank and lay flat...

Brickwork is a necessary pain...:)...

All this is going on while awaiting the arrival of a laser cut house...

I know you’ve kit-bashed this build using scratchbuilt parts courtesy of yourself, Larry, but it certainly doesn’t look piecemeal.

The colouring is most realistic too.

A very nice model indeed, Larry.

Very kind of you to say so Jonte. Today, I discovered the work of Philip Healey Pearce on Brush's Intentio website. His treatment of brickwork made me look afresh at my own approach and influenced the painting of the latest addition to the goods yard, namely the coal merchants building...

The coal merchant's building was finished this morning. View thru' t'window show's fireplace and some scruffy DIY on the window frame...

I suppose the Cambrian rented out this building; anyway it's not been repainted since GWR days. Mr. Glover insisted on using his company colours of dark green on the roof board...
