I should have a look at the governor and injectors on that blue 08...

One thing you never get with the 08 sound cards that I've heard, is the rattling engine room doors that are such a feature of the real thing when seen hanging around or tootling up and down in stations and yards etc. - which is most of the time.

I agree. The engine is also idling way faster than it should be, maybe it won't idle at the correct speed. Needs a service. It doesn't sound like any EE 6KT I have known, so maybe not the best sample to base a model sound on.

Are they driving it using the just the controller instead of the throttle to increase speed? Maybe someone who drives 08s can tell us what is being done.

The Blue 08 is mainly used for there Lyminton Flyer, the green 08 Haversham is there main shunter but only vac brake fitted.
There are a few strange sounds coming from the blue 08.

You can't get at the fuel rack to speed the engine up manually without going into the 'engine room' through the side doors. There's only the power controller in the cab but if you have the reverser in mid-position it will rev up the engine if you wind it up. Apart from the high idle speed it was hunting when it came towards the camera and that's way too much smoke from an 08 in good order also.
