Whilst visiting a model shop today i got into a conversation about o gauge railbus kits and if the proprietor knew of any? I was told that apparently Heljan are producing a range of four wheel railbuses in oo and that they might bring them out in o  but how many years off is that  oh well back to my skinley drawings styrene sheet and milliput

my o gauge type 3 was bought as a non runner it had only been on display apparently  when i got my mits on it i discovered that one of the nylon mesh cogs had split thus causing one motor bogie to sieze solid and the fan motor was very loud i now have a 3 axle drive hymek with a disconected fan . i dont think i will loose any tractive effort on my indoor mini layout unlike some of you lucky garden railway lads with realistic 9 coach trains and 20 plus wagons  , i could build an outdoor railway but as the garden is on a steep bank id have to build a model of the crumlin viaduct to make a loop

Ah yes, that does seem to be a common complaint... and disconnection a common solution, too!!
Are the fan motors any quieter on the 47 and 37..?

My fans are still connected (Hymek & 47) & the Hymek has done a lot of miles round the garden. I know there have been problems with some 4mm stuff, but I would say that the 7mm locos are very well engineered & I have not had any problems so far  . I just wish they would do a Western (I may have mentioned that before)

I would agree the locos seem very robust, and the mechanism is far better engineered for heavy use than some other kits. I disconnected the fan because it squeaked. I certainly wouldn't hesitate to recommend them at the right price.
Yes, I do think an RTR Western would sell! Probably better than class 20's as well.

Most of these problems have been with their 4mm stuff. The only issue I've ever heard of with the 7mm locos is that the little motor that drives the fan is a bit noisy.
Having had a close look at the 37 I'm not keen on the covers over the motors being so visible in each cab; but black paint would help!
My Hymek has also lost some plating off a couple of wheel treads, but otherwise is fine.

Don't be put off by any means!!
