Prototype A Day Out in Saltburn (and a little Gateshead)

Back to the North East today, 2nd July 1937.

The back of the photo says "J24 with tender cab". The strategically placed wisp of steam has obscured the number (xxx0?).

We are of to York next.

Just been sorting out the York photos and it turns out that a couple are in Gateshead. It seems to me to make more sense to include them here.

"590 at work" not dated but presumably the same as the above.

There were three J24s with tender cab 1860/1893/1950, all allocated to Saltburn, take your pick.

It looks like '60' in the steam to me so my money would be on 1860 as the J24.

Now I would have said it looks more like a 5 than a 6 as I think I can see more of a flat top to the number rather than the top curl of a 6 so I would have gone for 1950.
