7mm A new O gauge adventure

It's been a while since I've posted anything on here but since I have I've sold most my 4mm fleet and I've jumped up to 7mm.

It started with a few beers and next thing I knew I'd ordered a blue Dapol 08, nearly two months on I've got a green one and a blue Class 40, not to mention 2 Class 37's on pre-order along with a peak.

Layout wise I've nothing to show although I have got tails, chairs and sleepers, as for layout ideas there's a couple thrown in the hat, one being Kings Cross stabling point/loco Yard the other a stabling point based around Edgehill.

Whilst I pull my hair out deciding what to do I've made a start weathering the first 08, using a mix of acrylic paint and powders, which are then are then sealed. I then use a fibre pen to remove the weathering in various areas, I then repeat the process depending on how clean or dirty I want the loco.

So here's some pics of the first stages

In some ways weathering is easier in 7mm as things are bigger but on a whole I think the attention to detail makes things a lot more difficult, in a good way though. It just means it takes a bit longer.

Last night I managed to finish the first layer of weathering, I normally seal this using Railmatch matt varnish using the airbrush as aerosols don't normally do a very good job but thought I'd try Dullcoat having been recommended by Jinty and I have to say it worked great :)

I let it stand in warm water for ten minutes then a good shake, I can highly recommended it!

So left to dry overnight I've given it a quick going over with the scratch pen this morning to remove the majority of the powder.

I think one more layer of weathering, sealing and same again and I'll be happy with it as I don't want it to dirty.

    Cheers

I have to say the underframe weathering is superb. I can almost smell the grease and diesel. Very nice indeed.

Another 30 minutes last night seen more work with the scratch pen and the ends weathered, then this morning I sealed it again.

Just need to remove the Maskol and I think it's finished, I'm sure there might be one or two little bits to tidy up though.

    Hi PJ,

looking good - but don't forget the underside of the buffer stocks and lower buffer beam areas.

    regards

Thanks Mike, I thought that before might add wipers to. One place I haven't painted or weathered yet are the wheels, normally the first thing I do but to be fare they look ok for some reason. When I weather the green one they'll be more rust/break dust so there will be quite a difference.

    Thanks again

Hi Howard thanks very much, it was dc but is now Dcc, it's got the top white light which is wrong apparent although there is a shunting light option on Paul Chetter's chip, I know he's doing a how to in the next Hornby mag of how to change to prototypical lighting.

Thanks again and looking forward to how you get on with yours mate.

    Cheers

As for tonight the underneath of the buffers and under frame are now weathered on the blue 08 so I'll seal that tomorrow but I thought I'd make a start on the green 08, this is going to be in a pretty rundown poor state.

Not the best pics due to the poor light but hopefully you'll get the idea.
