Unfortunately very little progress here, motivation is somewhat lacking and I am still waiting on red-oxide spray. This has been sat on the workbench for some time, but as part of my paint order turned up (grey primer and gloss white, no £"@/ing Red Oxide) while I did some base coats on a couple of other things I got this into gloss white and started adding details. I've specked up some logo's which I was going to print but the printer gave up the ghost yesterday. I might try and get someone to print them on decal paper now though.

Another long term resident of the 'part finished' pile has returned to the workbench. A lack of available parts consigned it to the bottom of the pile, but now I have been able to source a few bits work has recommenced. Radio pod's have had new mountings made and fitted to the roof and a first coat of primer proper. I had been unsure if I could get away with just adding the additional grills for a 26/0 to the cant rail and keeping the rest as the original Heljan ones, this first proper coat of primer proved that it just wasn't to be, so out with the Dremel, a couple of sharp blades and some wet and dry they have now been removed. These will get replaced with some etched brass ones in the next few days, the body is now sat with the cant rails covered in filler to be sanded back tomorrow. Thankfully these Sulzer type 2's were pretty rotten towards the ends of their lives so a few imperfections here and there won't go a miss!!

I am pretty happy with the other work on this body so once I have got the grills sorted and another couple of coats of primer off to the paint shop it will go. Hopefully on my next shopping tip sometime next week.

Not much progress this week, but hopefully a bit more over the weekend. Another 37 has arrived for some work and a new livery and Cam's 37402 & my 37008 have been back on the WB, hopefully in Primer over the weekend. 26005 has however had its new grills fitted and is in Primer ready for its top coats. Next shop it will be getting dropped of with Cam hopefully with the two 37's if I can finish getting them ready.

Although I have had a week off there hasn't been a massive amount of progress. Cam has been working his magic in the paint shop so first up is 26005 getting its grey coats:

Secondly I have (very) slowly been building some more of Paul's Blackadder wagons. Final bits before paint added this morning followed by priming, then this afternoon a couple of coats of yellow:

Should be able to mask the Blackadders up tomorrow and spray the black. Then I will just be waiting some more transfers. I really need to crack on with the chassis for the 26 so that will likely be top of the list of things to do this week. will see how I get on!

An hour or so last night and another just now and the cab steps for 26005 are complete. I am in no way an expert in soldering, probably not even a novice so I apologise for the state of these, hopefully with a good coat of paint any indiscretions will be lost! I don't think I want to see another set of brass cab steps for some time now..…...

Little and often seems to be make some progress. While the boss was still snoozing this morning I did as much as I can in terms of transfer on my 3 additional Blackadders, some slight variation to logo's and positioning to give some variety. Just now waiting on Steve at Railtec for some more chevrons and I can finish these off.

Hi Al,

really enjoying your thread - great work!

you mention replacement grills for your 26;

“I had been unsure if I could get away with just adding the additional grills for a 26/0 to the cant rail and keeping the rest as the original Heljan ones, this first proper coat of primer proved that it just wasn't to be, so out with the Dremel, a couple of sharp blades and some wet and dry they have now been removed. These will get replaced with some etched brass ones in the next few days, the body is now sat with the cant rails covered in filler to be sanded back tomorrow.”

Are these available commercially? I’m thinking mainly the body side grill.

Many thanks,

Neil.

Well after a pretty crap day at work where by everything I seemed to touch either didn't go to plan or just went wrong, I set down with a set of GJH Davis & Lloyd bogies. An hour or so later I have another set of bogies ready for paint to go under either a PXA or JNA Wagon.

Again, not a lot of progress, but a delivery yesterday will help things along a bit, a nice pile of transfers from Railtech. Not all for me I might add, a good few of these will be going on to Cam this week for various projects from both our stables. These have meant that a Dogfish I picked up the other week has got a new set of numbers, along with a Catfish (which I already had a set for) and the two POA's above that needed chevrons. All four wagons will be getting satin varnished today and so later on or early this week I should be able to do the last couple of bits on the POA's and they can go off to Cam for some dirt!

Got the last bits done on my other three POA's today so that's the scrap train done for now (1x JNA & 4x POA's), I may well add another JNA at some point as I have enough spare transfers for a second one without having to buy more chevrons. 37423 has also been across the bend for some adjustment to and replacement of some sections of the ploughs, now released back to traffic.

Managed to get down the garden just as 37423 was trundling though. Trust me not to notice a) I hadn't sat it on the rails properly and b) the eth cable had come adrift!

Next up on the bench is a Dapol 08, this was bought at a very advantageous prices as a second due to it missing a door. This will get replaced at some point (probably with a set of wooden doors which will need paint) but for now we'll get it something like then that can be dealt with later. Turns out its not just the missing door, seems it was actually 08795 and has had the number badly removed and some paint thrown at it, nothing we can't tidy up mind!

Finally getting the transfers on my 3 JNA's. Show up well don't they.

Mine are not as detailed as yours and I would like to find an alternative buffer (I am not sure the GJH ones are quite right) but they do make up to quite an imposing wagon. I'll likely have another one off Paul as I have enough transfers for a second one. Hopefully he might do the pedestal version of the blackadders so I can mix the set up even more.
