Another hi from Western Canada

Hi there. I'm living with my wife and dog on Vancouver Island, off the west coast of Canada, after moving from the UK 10 years ago.

My main interest is the GNR, and I'm a member of the GNR Society, and I maintain our website. Being so far away from the centre of the action, I try to be as self-sufficient as possible, so I'm using my computer drawing skills in conjunction to make parts for models using a 3D printer and laser cutter. That said, I am by no means a skilled modeller!

I lost my mojo quite some time back, but with the sun coming out, and things getting more organised - not least the shed - I'm slowly getting back into it. The first thing I'm doing is focusing on printing and building the GNR petrol railcar that I drew up a couple of years ago.

Welcome aboard - a nice start with an intriguing subject. What Scale/gauge is this likely to be?

Hi Adrian, thank you. It's going to be 4mm and 00 gauge. I'll start a thread when I get going properly next week.

Hi Michael, I'm in Shawnigan Lake, just north of Victoria. Are you on here too?

Hi Jason I am in Edmonton Alberta, but I know where the lake is My youngest son stayed at a friends cottage there back in the late 80's.

Hi Jason,

Welcome. You should make contact with the Vangog lads. They are very welcoming with members spread from Langley to Gibsons, and host regular meetings, although that is currently on hold for obvious reasons !

Thanks Ian.

It seems a the moment that there are so few people travelling that they've cancelled a lot of sailings. When this is over, I'll look them up! We drive through there a couple of times a year when we venture from the island.

Welcome. Although I am based north of Calgary we visit the island a couple of times a year, under normal circumstances, and visit the restored Kinsol Trestle, which is a pleasant walk, so know your location.
You should visit the Vancouver train show in November, good friendly show, hopefully will take place latter this year

Thanks Nigel, I used to live in Fernie, so I know Calgary, and Supertrain, well. I still have a couple of friends there, so I drive over every couple of years. I did go to the show when I first moved over, but haven't had a chance since. When this is over I'll make sure I go again. :) And I'll give you a shout the next time I venture over the Rockies.
