Hello all

After years of thinking I must get back into model railways, (I lost interest after attempting to build MTK kits!) I've finally decided to take the plunge and go straight for 7mm.

Going to get myself either an MMP 08 or DJH 03 or maybe both and slowly work on both, being a Yorkshireman I favour metal over plastic as I feel like I am getting more for my money  ;)

At some point I will find when/where Poacher 7mm group meet and pop along to watch a running session to give myself the push I need to get going.

Thanks for the welcome everyone.

Mark (marsa69) unfortunately at the moment I have something on this Sunday, but am going to try and get out of it.  If so I will drop you a PM, if not thanks for the offer and hopefully I will get January

Just noticed I can now order MMP kits online.  Think I should get the 08 ordered tonight, then I can tell the mrs I started my Christmas shopping, she will be amazed, until I tell her I was shopping for myself.

Welcome to the forum
The MMP 08 is a fantastic kit, but probably not the one to choose as a starter after a lay off. I havent built the 03 so can't comment on its quality , but from what I have read it might be a better bet as a  'warm up'

I suggest that you read the MMP 08 thread which was started by LNER-JP (Jonpaul) in which there is a discussion about the axles and cranks.... and then make sure that you get the axles from MMP (as noted by Mr. Parkin in that thread).  The axles which Slaters supply with the Class 08 wheels are not long enough and hence there is a binding problem which Jonpaul has documented.
