Due to increasing numbers of fake members joining it is now a requirement to give both a first name and surname on registration, and as an additional measure a preferred modelling scale. Combined with admin approval this should hopefully reduce the problem.

The email address/name is usually suspicious, they are not people we 'know', they are either bots or spammers

I have to ask the question what is a bot and what is a spammer. I dont recognise any of these terms could someone computer savvy please explain what they are, what they get from what they do and how we can stop them doing it.

If it's just a deletion of the account then why not do it, send an e-mail to the member with a time limit set and if no reply deletion of the account. My friend Roberto has not posted any replies but has been active in serching the site. There are people who have set up an account and never visited the site.

In simple terms, bots join and harvest data, some are 'good' - google, yahoo etc others less so. Spammers are fake accounts eg ddelorischandleri who joined this week. I picked up on it and deleted the account. asking a couple of questions will make it easier for me to either approve or delete membership, and i doubt they will be able to answer the preferred scale question.
Dormant accounts (no post) are different, and if they are genuine people then I leave them. fortunately being a small forum none of this is too much of a problem.
