Not quite the blue era although there is a hydraulic interest - here is Botleigh Old North Road which is appearing at the Basingstoke Show this year. Botleigh depicts a fictious "shed" in the twilight of steam and features a mixture of motive power.

and here is a video of the layout:-

Warren Lane - 00/H0 - a representation of a container terminal in East Anglia, sometime after privatisation... and appearing at the Basingstoke 2014 Show. I guess that we shall have to introduce a queuing system for this layout because of the fascinating sight of working cranes - I shall make time to watch the layout before the doors open!

Something different for a change - Rhineside is a continental 3mm scale layout and is appearing at the Basingstoke 2014 Show. Rhineside depicts a DB main line running along a bank of the River Rhine.

Layouts from the Kidmore "family" are a continuing feature of Basingstoke exhibitions and this year is no exception for Kidmore Creek is attending the 2014 Show. Construction of the layout is covered on the Kidmore Creek web page.

From the viewpoint of visitors to the Basingstoke Show the biggest niggle - judging by feedback - is the Heritage Bus which runs between Basingstoke station and the exhibition venue. The source of the niggle is the pick-up point at the station. So this year I have the show managers for a clear / concise / correct (hopefully) statement about where the Heritage Bus is to pick-up at the station.

Leave the station via the main booking hall exit on the down / south / busy side.

Cross the open pavement area in front of the booking hall and descend the steps heading for "The Malls" shopping centre.

Cross the road by the pedestrian crossing area.

Turn to the right and look for a bus stand for the Shuttle service to the Leisure Park - also used by buses to Sony and Chineham Business park. This is expected to be the stop for the Heritage Bus (provided as in most years by the Aldershot and District Omnibus Rescue and Restoration Society).

The Heritage Bus timetable is here and detailed in the free show guide.

thanks, see you in just over one week, Graham

Here is one of the rarities for Basingstoke - 2mm Fine Scale, this is Freshwater by Ian Morgan (who has supplied the photographs). As the layout is "work in progress" I am including several images to give an impression of what is in the builder's mind's eye.

Freshwater Dsc04515s.jpg

The last image is rather neat and shows how this scale can stand proud... 2mm? 4mm? 7mm? nothing which screams 2mm as far as I can see.

Basingstoke is twinned with several European towns and our Club has a link with the Euskirchen Model Railway Club - a link which sees model railway layouts from those towns crossing the Channel every couple of years. This year the Basingstoke Club is hosting the Euskirchen Club and here are some photos of the Euskirchen layout.

The day before... and all is calm... so today I can indulge in "Editor's Choice".. In the course of putting this thread together I receive several photos from many of the attending layouts and choosing which photos to include is a difficult - and enjoyable - task... as in previous years I am left with a creaking in-tray, so this year I am finishing the pre-show posts in a different manner. Here is a collection of unused images that I like:-

If you visit the show then please try to say hello (photo of my red hat earlier in the thread)... I hope that you enjoy the show, please leave your comments at the admission desk and here.

thank you Graham

A bit too far for me I'm afraid but I have enjoyed the build up to the show - it looks like a damn fine selection of layouts. I hope you have a successful and throughly enjoyable show.

A cracking show, a credit to everyone involved in organising it.

Aside from a couple of layouts suffering running problems from various causes, there was enough to keep me, Best Beloved and John Lewsey happy for a couple of hours.

That last photo of Dock Green is a corker. Very sorry not to have been able to make it.
You bet - on both counts.

Until today I had seen only a couple of the layouts before.... and those were layouts which I requested for the show. Not all of the exhibitors submitted photos and I was not able to find some (layouts) on the internet so there were a couple of layouts which I did not get to see until today. Amongst those layouts which I have not been able to publicise there is one which deserves mention in dispatches.

Dentdale is a N-gauge model of one station on the Settle and Carlisle. Superb scenery, very atmospheric and sympathetic modelling, working signals (YES - working semaphore signals in N-gauge) and, what sold it for me, prototypical train formations. As an example, I noted a diesel working of ten or twelve maroon Mk.1s - and then I noticed a dome-end in the formation, a Gresley TK. I asked about this "interloper" and the owner replied that he had a video of such an occurence. Long Meg sheeted hoppers, double-heading of EE type 1s on containers, tremendous variety of services.

Dentdale can hold its and deserves wider appluase, do get to see this layout - if not at our show then pester the Milton Keynes Club for a photoset on their web site.

regards, Graham

What is probably a first for our show... I noted at least five WT-ers. Maybe next year we shall have to include a test-track in the layout section to accomodate a traditional 1pm meet. Thanks Guys and Gals.

Interestingly for me at least I rang David Andrews the other day about the Prince Of Wales class loco kit LNWR he has one left so I'm going to order it .As I'm walking around the Basingstoke show low and behold there is a book LMS loco review and it contains pictures and drawings of the Prince of Wales Class with some wonderful photos RESULT

It's a thought... How about the S7 test track for next year... It was 'only' a thought....
