Big Big Hymek

No problem, I'm happy to talk in more detail. I'll start a workshop thread later today when I get home from work. (I've done a Lima 33 to 27 too.)
I've gone through several cups of tea waiting for this. You're forcing me to turn to the spirits cupboard!

I had a Big Big Hymek that was converted to 2-rail by a local model shop many, many, years ago and long since gone.
I now have two in pieces awaiting conversion someday - one of those things that I still need to do.
Then onto the Lima 33s!

Hi, just joined the forum on the strength of this thread. Fantastic work on the Hymek, first of all!
I've just started converting a Big Big Hymek to match the one used in an old Gerry Anderson series (The Secret Service). First railway-related modelling I've done so a lot of this (no, all of it) is totally new to me.
So far I've done the same work on the bogies as mentioned above but am now waiting for a diesel detail pack before I can really get cracking.SecServ-Bufflers-1.png

Welcome to the best place on the net.

Your first photo is very atmospheric and only the shade of blue gives away the origin of the model.

Please continue to show us more of this scene / diorama / layout.

regards, Graham

I hope mine turns out that well - that's a still from the episode! ('Last Train to Bufflers Halt' from 'The Secret Service').
I think they left the original number on the train too.
Mine isn't so far advanced - as you can see :) I'll definitely post pics of progress though

That takes my mind back! 1969, Central Hall Westminster. Admiring 2mm finescale layout and wondering what scale to take up. Then this Hymek came out and I joined G0G. My "improvements" were not so far reaching as yours, but I was happy with it. Then came a couple of MK2 coaches, which meant a trip to Paddington to sketch and measure the interiors. One had major surgery to make it a Brake Second and I was happy with that too.

Nice to see an old toy still able to be converted into a nice model after all these years.

It's taken me an age to get to this stage but I'm seeing a bit of progress at last.
The plan is to model the Big Big Hymek seen in the 'Secret Service' episode, weathering and all, so I hope Class 35 purists aren't offended!

Lots of metal parts added to give a bit of authenticity, figures and consoles in the cabs and so on. Maybe if I get hold of another I'll go for the authentic livery but it's been a learning experience in many ways :)

This looks super Colin. I'd love to have a blow by blow account of what you did and how you did it. I have one in the rapidly overflowing 'to do' box. I have a PRMRP kit (actually, it's an old RJH kit, but same as) to build up but the instructions, particularly correcting the bodywork, are quite complex.

I'm not sure if the Lima 33 is an easier conversion to 26/27s so I'm interested in these workshops too.
steve if you are still waiting to start I have one 90 o/o finished using PRMRP kit and one finished RJHif you want to see it I will take it to Bristol Jan 22 2017 I don't glue the chaise in it is totally removable so as the power units can run with out the body . Bob Savage

Hello,

Just joined this website on the strength of this thread. As a matter of interest it was this page that brought me to Western Thunder;

convert an novo triang 'jumbo train' to an hymek 35 british railways (need help)

I am after bits and pieces that people don't want, when they 'upgrade' their Hymeks to electric.

I have got two Hymeks in bits and another two Hymeks which have 'dud' motors I do have at least two Hymeks that work. Another two I am unsure about at the moment. I have uploaded a parts list document.

With reagards to defunct motors. I saw this you tube clip;

Triang Novo BIG BIG Hymek Broken Burned Motor Replacement O Gauge

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I57VJz_EZ-s

I don't know what others carry in spares and does anybody have any advice on obtaining new motors and fitting them in please.

Thank you in advance.
