Wow, look at the variations. Bachmann has produced locos before with Auto-Vac gear but never any suitable coaches, while Hornby has the LMS Suburbans but hasn't bothered fitting push-pull ends. A spot of joined up thinking would benefit everyone.

Very tasty. That must be just about all the motive power used on the BR S&DJR now available RTR?

9F, 8F, 7F, 4F, 3F, Std 4 & 5, Std tanks, Ivatt tank, 2P, Bulleids, Jinty, 1P tank...

Glad to see you have omitted the pesky Western locos from your list Chris. To be applauded.

For me the S&D will always have Green signage.

However, don't forget the Black 5. I would add in the Ivatt class 4 mogul and the Horwich Crab, both of which were regulars up to the late 40s/ very early 50s. ( Rule one extends this to the late 50s in my woolly world)
Also Std class 4 moguls and for Radstock, a L&Y Pug. From the Southern we had the T9 that were on occasion provided by Bournemouth shed.

Therefore a comprehensive roster of motive power can be assembled with little or no effort.
A good representation of coaching stock is also available RTR, including the 39* Maunsell sets.

All in all, anyone could have a decent stab at doing a S&DJR main line layout off the shelf.

One day a mainline layout based on the Northern end of the line...........

Lambcombe Vale?

Sheepton Mallet ?

Baahverton Hammer?

Mmmmmmm..............long sweeping curves.......wide/longbaseboards.........minimal track work ........PECO Code 75 Bullhead track/points

All these models are now coming out too late...

Never too late Dave........

Did I forget the Western locos? Silly me...

I knew I was missing a fair few of the other types so well done for completing the list. 20 years ago I was seriously looking at building a S&DJR layout in OO, but the lack of RTR locos (particularly the 7F) and the then comparatively high cost of kits eventually killed that one.

I got as far as building a 39x set and amassing mk1 and Bulleid coaches. Various layout schemes were drawn up to fit the garage we then had - loved the visuals of Midford with the viaduct and the station set into the hillside.

There was however a sudden change in direction when the idea for Treneglos came along. The S&DJR specific stock was sold and, by the time I'd gone through being involved in Diesels in the Duchy and Black Country Blues, thoughts turned to Pencarrow in 7mm.

Like the Mosquito kit, a S&DJR layout is an itch yet to be scratched...

The Sentinels, 102/101, are very individual but regrettably not available RTR .......but there is a very nice kit........

And somewhat limited to quite a small geographical area (Radstock iirc). I was thinking more of the mainline types used more widely in numbers.

Either way it shows just how far the RTR market has come in 20 years.
