Nice views sheepbloke.

Are you going to put any hedges or trees in?

Morning Chris.

No, that's not my intention. Flat, bleak and neglected. I may well add to the grass but Bleat is already looking a tad dog eared.

Main thing ahead of it's debut are the buildings which require some personal touches......weathering.

I do like your layouts Rob! The weathering is very realistic.

Best wishes,

Nick

Morning Nick.

Thank you. Ironically, the next two pictures show an out of the box Dapol B4 which I was running last night.
This is not the usual motive power which will be ex - Midland types.

In my humble opinion I think a very low distant painted horizon would add to the scene, possibly no more than an inch to an inch and a half high. I feel it would add to your already splendid work.

Lush!

Please forgive my ignorance, Rob, but does the flora come in a bag ready to flock (with an artist’s eye of course), or does it involve cutting out minute petals?

Also, I’ve always wondered about the pragmatics of vegetation adjacent to/in between the rails. Does it make track cleaning difficult or is it flexible enough to take the vigorous rail-rubbing process?

Any roads: it looks good enough to lie down in on a balmy day like this

Kindest,

Jonte

Thank you Jonte.

I am careful with track cleaning but it seems fairly robust on SL and Mutton and I have used the same techniques here. Hopefully it will be as durable............

The jungle is a base of 2mm static grass with 4mm layered over the top to start.

The flocky stuff is whatever I can find knocking about, left over from the previous layouts. It does not involve cutting out petals but I try to be careful where the colours land if that makes sense. More a suggestion than slavish replicas ( that sums up my approach to modelling really). An impression of, applied with the broadest of brushes......

Now, it's far too verdant for reality but I rather like it this way. A bit of a caricature. It would undoubtedly be better manicured in reality. The 'look' is consistent with Mutton and Sheep Lane, a time when the sun shone and the wild flowers bloomed in abundance..........

A slight heat haze, the buzz of insects, an occasional song bird and a waft of wild flowers with a hint of warm creosote...........that's Bleat Wharf for you.

Hi Rob

Thanks for the input; quite the artist and it shows.

As I read your post, relaxing at the bottom of the garden on this warm and pleasant eve, a neighbour’s radio plays the smoothest of Smooth, and I can’t help feeling the two make for a somewhat heady mix.

Quite moving.

I forgot to mention Bobby Darin drifting out of the PYE transistor radio in the yard office........

Many have tried Jim........

I appreciate the aesthetic but I will stay with the tension locks.

When I exhibited at Nailsea there was no adverse mention made re the TL. However a number of comments were made regarding the fact that the stock on my layouts was all ready to run, the TL serving to illustrate this........'just goes to show what can be done etc........'

To me the available three links and screw couplings appear over scale anyway. Then we look at the Jackson couplings etc which are time consuming to fit and set up and I come back to the TL which I find suit me both at home and at a show.

7mm is different. Should I go down that route then I will use scale couplings.

I must admit for my fledgling 7mm efforts, 3 links are the main attraction for 7mm in the first place, that and all the other reasons!

Morning all.

Still working on Bleat. I cannot get it finished for its debut on Sunday.

Detailing will have to wait whilst I concentrate on the buildings........but it is going to be tight........
The main compromise will be the use of Mutton ' s lighting. I simply haven't got time to build it...........and I still have to prep Mutton for its exhibition on Saturday.

Here is a view of a couple of the buildings, now weathered.

Apologies for the quality of the image but the lighting was not so good.

I have to say that by weathering the tension lock couplers to match the wagon they don't seem anywhere so invasive as "out of the box".

I use scale couplers in 7mm scale but they can be a trial sometimes when your fingers and eyes start to complain. And it's difficult to couple up a train when it's in a tunnel! Three link couplers definitely need tuning up as well.
