Remember Rob that you are amongst friends on Sunday. We're just looking at the progress you've made and it's more important to have you present in good fettle rather than knackering yourself trying to finish a layout. You'll get the same amount of grief regardless :p

Eclectic mix you have there, Rob, of proprietary and ‘hand-laid’, but you’ve blended it seamlessly.

I’m sure all will be well, light permitting or not.

Good luck!

"Apologies for the quality of the image but the lighting was not so good."

Nowt at all wrong with the picture Rob, it all looks pretty good to me; and the weathering of those 16 tonners in the earlier pictures is absolutely cock on...!

Morning all..

Thank you everyone for the kind words and encouragement.

All a bit busy at the moment but I think I am getting there.......slowly.

I had hoped to weather one of the 1F's but learning from the disaster that was weathering a 3F the night before a show...........it ain't going to happen.

Whatever is not done by tomorrow morning will have to wait and be done slow time.

I learnt yesterday that Bleat Wharf is booked for the main Cardiff show on the 19th and 20th of October this year.

I will therefore aim to get things done ahead of this.

Hi Tim,

I'm no builder, I just play with trains but the two buildings aren't joined. There's a space between the two.

Would there be a lead flashing bridging the gap?

Rob.
All is now clear, so no flashing required. I do like the faded painted brickwork.

Thanks Tim.

I would love to take credit for the faded brickwork but that is all Bachmann's work.
Both buildings are ready to plant resin jobs but I have painted and weathered both to suit.

I have had the smaller building for years, waiting to use it. I work on the basis that this was built before the coming of the railways and the goods yard evolved around it.

Bleat is far from finished and is at an interim stage whereby I am happy to exhibit it but knowing there us more to do.

First proper outing is at the Cardiff Show in October this year.

Rob.

Morning all.

Bleat Wharf had a very nice debut as an exhibition layout at the RMweb members day at Taunton last weekend.

More of a social than a show, it was very relaxed and a thoroughly enjoyable day.
Bleat was assembled and ran for the first time at the show that morning. Very quick to pop up without any issues at all.

A few very minor teething problems arising from the rush in getting Bleat ready were soon ironed out and things went fine.

Operating the layout was a lot of fun and I was very pleased.

The lighting fascia from Mutton was borrowed and the next job is to build one specific to Bleat.
This will include space on top to store the fiddle yard when in store/transit meaning it is one lift to move about.

As in the previous post, Bleat was due to be exhibited for the first time in public at the Cardiff show in October. I have withdrawn it due to family commitments that weekend and therefore it will be out and about in January 2020. First will be the S&DJR trust show at Edington followed by the Small Cardiff show the same month.

I am very pleased to be taking Bleat to the show at Edington and having the opportunity to show my take on the S&D to other S&D enthusiasts in the part of Somerset which inspired the layout.

All good stuff really.

A few recent photos, including an Eastern region Toad added to the stock list.

As you say Rob, it was an excellent day. Not really an exhibition but more of a gathering of like minded folk (and a few from Wales). No barriers, no general public, no pressure, lots of banter, sharing ideas and maximum enjoyment. The opposite to the big commercial shows. Many folk in attendance are also on WT so really just a mates day out.

Bleat looked excellent, looking forward to you finishing it off with sheep and trees...

Rob, where are the LED strips from?

Are they warm white or something else?

Morning Stu,

The LED strip that's fitted at present is cool white and is 1150mm long. It came from Screwfix who appear to have a decent model railway layout lighting section at reasonable prices.

It is mounted at the very front, right up against the fascia.

I normally get my lighting from Lidl but this is quite seasonal and not stocked all year round.

I will be adding a second strip light in warm white, again from Screwfix. This will be mounted mid-way with a vertical baffle between the two. This masks the middle light when looking into the layout from the front.

I am hoping that it will give the same effect as Mutton's lighting which illuminated Bleat Wharf at Taunton.
