Hi Mike,

either you stood me up or you got sidetracked?  :))

Hi Mark,

I'm sorry, but the guys that I had gone with were very disapointed with the show - as I was, and we decided to leave at12.30, we had arrived at 10.30 and were more than hard pushed to stay until 12.30. Perhaps we could arrange something for Halifax in June?

It's a shame but it was a rather disappointing show. The selection of layouts could have been better and there seemed to be a fair bit of open spaces. It's a nice venue but it just seemed like they were struggling to fill the halls. Also I'm not sure that the arrangement of layouts in one room and traders in the other worked that well. If it wasn't a ALSRM meeting I can't image Slaters and Tower supporting it, fortunately Squires made it worthwhile so I returned home with a few more tools for my workbench.

No worries Mike. I must echo your sentiments with regards to the show. Apart from the excellent Redwood Logging layout and Simon Eccles manfully doing his best with Leeming Yard the other layouts were disappointing. In fact on one layout the operators were more bothered chatting to friends than actually running trains  :headbang: Then after numerous grumbles from assorted spectators they actually pulled their fingers out and got on with running trains, albeit for 10mins until such time as a broken rail appeared. They then spent the next hour fixing said rail  :shit: So overall a massive thumbs down from me  :(  Here's to hoping for a better day out at Kettering next week,

regards,

Mark

Sorry to hear the show wasn't up to much  :(.

I went to this show a couple of years ago & it was OK, but even then It was a bit like a guild show but with far less trade support, so with this one & the Guild's Kettering show being 7 days apart I tend to do Kettering instead.

I must admit I was trying to be a bit more diplomatic as people have put the effort in. Redwood Logging was the best in show by a country mile. As for "Turtle Creek" - all I saw were a few green boards with a bit of track pinned to it, the photo in the show adverts must be the only bit of finished scenery on the layout but I couldn't find it. The operator was too busy showing off his DCC system and sound chips so I never got to see the 6" of scenery. Some of the traders were no more than a couple of plastic tubs of books dumped on a table.

The "test track" was a major disappointment too. I went past several times and the only thing that appeared to be running were a couple of LMS tank loco's and no stock. Yet upstairs there were demo stands from the Preston 0 Gauge group and the Morecambe Group filled with loco's - so why couldn't they have got some stock running on the test track and provide some interest? And before I get the comments about if I want to see stuff running then I should have taken something - my cop out is that they could only take "narrow gauge" stuff, unfortunately S7 is still a minority interest.

A common malady, seen at many exhibitions... even Telford  :(

When one or two layouts are disappointing, it's a shame. When you feel like a whole Show has been a waste of time, that's altogether worse, and far more likely to mean it joins the "One to Miss" list forevermore....

Certainly there were complaints about "non - running" on one or two layouts at Telford both in the Gazette and the model press. My Mrs and I kept trains running solidly for the whole two days on our Gatcombe broad gauge  layout but never got a mention anywhere!. C'est la vie...
