Not bad at all, chaps. Yes, this is the reverser electro-mechanical switch from D1062 which has come home with me for a refubishment. When it came to me it was absolutely filthy, but not surprising considering where it lives on the loco, which is mounted above the reversing gearbox and manual over-ride, on the transmission block, and under the cooler group, at each end. There was barely any paint left on the cover (which was originally painted black), and the silicone seal had worn such that inside was caked in oily grime. Anyway, looks a lot better now, I think, and apart from having to replace one of the bakelite switches, it should be good for another 20 years or so when refitted in February.

If anyone's interested in this sort of stuff I'll keep you updated with what's going on with the D10xx's at SVR each month. My next job is stripping down the......... ah, well.... lets wait and see;).

Now..... back to some modelling.

Me too: I just wish I lived close enough to one of the preserved lines to do something. My nearest would be the NYMR and they are 70 miles and a Humber Bridge toll away.:(

Been a busy week with work this week, so not too much progress on the '52's to report. Coupled to the new desktop PC arriving today, there's not been much modelling going on around here. However, I have managed to get the motor mounts, drive chain, and gears in situ for the 20 axles to drive the cooler group fans on all five locos, so I guess that's not so bad. I'm not happy with the wires on the motors which are just too thick to manage effectively, so next job will be replacing them with something a little more refined, and conduited (is that a real word?) to keep things tidy.

Next up will be trimming the white-metal fans (unless Brian at Shawplan scurries his Extreme etches for the '52 fans and grills along sharpish) - why are the JLTRT w/m fan castings so over-size? Quite a bit of work to trim up 20 fans by hand so I'm pondering on a milling solution......hmm.

Hoping for the rest of the headcode circuit-boards to arrive next week, so I should be posting a bit more on the wiring, and then back to the windows when the etches and glazing arrive (thanks Dan & Guv'nor)

I haven't forgotten about posting my plans for the lighting you're requested, and now the new PC's arrived I should be able to progress this soon.

Nice lazy job for tomorrow will be making up the headcodes:-

D1009 - "1O09" both ends (Aug 1976)
D1026 - "1B45" and "oF77"
D10xx - "6M32" and "6V53"
D1063 - "1C63" and "6O42" -Burngullow - Sittingbourne China Slurry
D1065 - "1O65" both ends (Oct 1976)

Cheers. Boris.

Well and aborted trip to the WLA this weekend has meant I've managed to get around to fitting the firewire to my desktop, and I have now been able to make and post "Western Lights" - Part 1 - Making Holes!

The jig is dead simple - just two sheets, elevated to the right angles to make holes! I'll measure and post the dimensions if anyone wants to make one...

Cheers, Boris.

Hi Boris, is there supposed to be a pic as there isnt one one my computer just a very large space between your captions. Yes i will probably make a jig so the dimensions would be very helpful, oh and a pic;):))

Cracking video Ian.

The use of fibre optics for the marker lights is impressive. I imagine this would work well on a G1 1/32nd loco as well.

Lol.. thanks Roger. Yes, it should work just as well with 1/32 monsters - those Class 22s and Warships will be most impressive fully kitted out.

Rob - are you getting the Video link ok? Boris.

Am I right in my thinking?
The jig shown above ONLY sets the correct angle. The position of the drilling is still set by eye?
And what was that long tool LIKE a drill, used to finish off the hole?
Thanks.

Yes, the jig positions the cab so that when you line up the pillar drill with the centre of each directional light the the moulding the pilot hole produced is at just the right angles (in two planes) to ensure that when you extend the hole using the longer drill (by hand) it will come through in the centre of the cast resin - a suitable place to run the fibre-optic:) The long thing "LIKE" a drill is simply that.......a longer drill - they're available from Expo:thumbs: www.expotools.com

Oh wow..........how long IS it?

The jig is a nice trick. Knowing me, mine would have come through the floor......THEN I'd have thought of a jig.

Well behind the scenes there has been progress on the electrics, headcodes and lighting for the 52's, but a bit more exciting (well for me anyway) is the arrival of my first etches for the Clayliner (4 off) - Sheet No 1 of 6 to build 4 wagons. Just burned my fingers on the iron in my excitement! There's something about having your own etches done - just got to start building now - hope it'll hang together.

clayliner TT039a_etch_-_sheet_1.jpg Phots of the Westerns (now giving some clues as to their identities) will follow for anyone interested.

Rob, I'll also post some of the lighting details for you as promised - glad you got the jig, lights and F/O ok.
