And where would one send such 3D samples for brass casting please? Am considering 3D prinitng for resin parts but if it can be done in brass then that would mean a different base medium, ie brass etch rather than say plasticard etc.

You could still get the master 3D printed, then your caster could create the wax part by taking a mould from that. Brass casting is something I need to investigate too - I still need to get some of the IZA parts done in that way, when I get round to it.

    Hi Mick,

There are these highly renowned casters in France http://benoit.semblat.free.fr/ and there is another in Birmingham, whose details I don't have to hand at the moment. But I'll find their details and post soon.

    Cheers

Tom, much obliged for the link and future references, like Pugsley, many irons in many fires LOL.

Shapeways and there ilk seem to be the weapon of choice for many producing 3D resin components at the moment however (from my own point of view) they seem to be not only working out rather expensive, and have varying levels of QC, but the quality of finished object still seems to need a lot of filling & preparation before you could get a half decent master. This chap gets a good write up however I've no experience of his work http://www.chrisjward.co.uk/services.html

Hes not far from me, i really ought to go and pay him a visit, certainly give him a go for the next thing I want to do.

He's very helpful, but the parts I had from him just didn't have the required resolution - Shapeways seem to be the most cost effective for high resolution parts at present. iMaterialise have something similar, but it is a lot more expensive than FUD and Finelines have something better again, but that's even more expensive.

I may be able to help in the early part of next year - watch this space ;)
