In that case, there is a photo in my Western's book, in colour, of one carrying a VERY strange blue.
There could be any number of reasons for that, the phrase "the camera never lies" is a fallacy. When I was using colour transparencies it was well known that Fuji film would give a distinctly brighter green than other film stock.

I have long suspected that 'Chromatic Blue' is in fact the result of the early experiments with airless spraying of the blue paint. On some vehicles it looked distinctly matt and so one wonders whether the 'Chromatic' effect is the result of either unofficial playing with paint mix/settings, overspraying some sort of finishing coat or (perhaps most likely) the use of oil to brighten/polish the paint as would have been done in steam days. Looking at the effect in some photos I strongly suspect the latter...

Even then it depends on what film stock you were using; Velvia and Provia can give hugely different effects and they're both Fuji slide films...

Being a total Western nut, I think that I have bought nearly every book on Westerns that was ever written. Needless to say, lots of pictures crop up in more than one book. Its most certainly true that photos that look like (so called)Chromatic Blue in one book, look totally different in others. I remember that when the best we had was Fuji and Agfa film, one of them totally exagerated blues and greens and the other did the same with Reds and oranges. Not sure that the printing was very good in the 60s and 70s either! I'm fairly certain that Swindon mixed some odd brews of Rail Blue to start with, before BR HQ got them under control with a more precise paint spec. On the Cover of Adrian Curtis's book "Westerns: Volume One - Swindon Built Locos" there is a great picture of 17 and 37 in BSYP, next to a 600 (Presumably D602 - Bulldog) which all look very chromatic. However, a later picture of Warrior in the same livery on Page 77 of the same book, looks very different. Similarly, a picture of D602 "Bulldog" taken soon after at Plymouth on Page 10 of Strathwood's "Warships" looks almost grey!

Hi mate

I work for the Germans and we haven't supplied any trains to Virgin!

All their new trains have been French/Italian or French Canadian/Belgian!

Great show at Reading yesterday.

I picked up a Class 33 in Blue.

I've been trying to decide whether to get one for ages (when I knew really that I should) but I thought I'd left it too late and the blue ones were all gone!

Mint and boxed.

I numbered it yesterday - 6537.

Took me ages, but it looks okay.
