Train services on the Cambrian Coast were thrown into chaos yesterday, according to senior management sources. The culprit was the Northamptonshire Nobbler, an excursion special to Shell Island run on behalf of the east midland faction of the evangelical fundamentalist wing of Gimra. Apparently this splinter group are bound to hold themselves to the highest and most exacting of standards and felt that the inhabitants of mid-Wales were ripe for conversion from their usual casual attitudes to life. One local resident who wished to be nameless gave the opinion that this may have backfired as at least one of the visitors had expressed himself to be rather taken by the ways of the chapel.

Hi Neil,
The Warship looks rather nice at Shell Island perhaps you can persuade Gimra to organise an excursion to Morfa next ?
In the meantime I will have to send the owner of the Warship an EMGS application form, he knows it makes sense.

And why not: he has joined countless other organisations, too.

(But scarily, has made models in most of them!  )

It was probably a good job it turned left for Shell Island, or else it might have found itself a hazard to shipping surrounded by soggy firewood

The Northamptonshire Nobbler writes:

Having doned hair shirt, tweed jacket and proverbial beard to counter the cold, one descended to snowy Wales with the sole intention of capturing the rare (and somewhat underhand) arrival of a Warship along the Cambrian coast. Rumours of bridge strengthening appeared to be as unfounded as the timber supports themselves  ;) , but steady progress was made across the country for the 'special' event to be captured on camera. It would appear that the management were rather taken with the impressive beast before them (contrary to previously published sources), so enough time was made within the timetable to assess the haulage capabilities with a local mail train. Indeed, so garned with favour was the intruder that the management authorised a visit to the internal workshops for a replacement buffer to bring the beast back to an ex-works condition!

Ahh, the joys of an unfocussed approach to enjoying the hobby  :)) I'm more concerned over the recent exposure to slate and narrow gauge lines, I'll have to see if I can keep that temptation to the larger scales....

Oi Dunks, you are not helping  8)

I thought I should let you know that with Dungeness in the hands of its new owner, you have the somewhat dubious honour of being the owner of the last piece of stock to be photographed on it whilst under my care. I know you've seen the photo, but as a means of signing it off, and because I can't take any more photos...

I have made one of the Slaters Hunslets to a commission, and they are nice kits and result in a pleasantly chunky model. as you are veering from 4mm warships to gauge three you might as well stop off via a bit of NG on the way  :))

You're not helping either  :))

Oh, I think I am. Just not in a manner that you appreciate.
Yet.

I have to say that it is a cracking photo, and I have used it as the header for my new website/blog. (In case anyone wonders, with Steve's consent.)
