Flying Squad
A quick reminder about this forthcoming show in Bradford on Avon (Wiltshire) which I am the organiser/instigator of
It takes place on the weekend of 17th and 18th July at Saint Margarets Hall, in the centre of the town.
Further details are on my website at:
http://www.titfield.co.uk/Camrail/Camindex.htm
It is a good natured and relaxed show that nonetheless attracts a broad cross section of talented modellers as both participants and visitors. My criteria for inviting/including exhibits and demonstrators include such things as:
Modelling ability
Sociability
Sense of Humour
Originality
Relaxed approach to administration
Something to say/show
This year is unusual for me, featuring more than my usual number of relatively large layouts, plus supporting cast of smaller exhibits.
"Biggies" this year:
Robin Gay's 20 odd foot long P4 rendition of "Rolvenden" on the KESR. First shown at RailWells last year, this is its second only outing and Robin has a lot more too it since last year. I was impressed with the scale of the whole thing, the exquisite and authentic rolling stock, the superb running of the locos and the quality of the trackwork.
Alan Parr's EM scale "Braysdown and Writhlington" a magnificently staged section of S&D main line south of Radstock in the 1950s/60s with an absolutely superb model of Writhlington Colliery, modelled as if the 1930s headgear had not been modernised. I met Alan through a G1 friend some years ago and lent him some NCB plans of the surface works that I had/have. This layout was picked up by the ever resourceful Chris Nevard who managed to capture it for Hornby Magazine last year. Never before exhibited in public and well worth seeing.
John Dale's "Worlds End Quay" A Gauge One 1/32 light railway terminus, inspired by Leicester North Road station and featuring some superb structures, a "Barry Slip" and all those lovely Manning Wardles. I'll embarass John by saying I think he is one of the UK's top modellers - possibly best known for his exquisite "Alexandra Yard" and beautiful LNWR models.
Several "Thunderers" will be in attendance, Myself and Messrs Cook and Dale plus Captain Kernow, I think the Guv is threatening to descend too, so if it isn't too far and you're not already fixed up then it's defo. worth a trip.
In addition and for the younger visitors Harry and Charlie C. will be running their own set up, Eurostar, Jouef/Bachmann hybrid USA tank, Madame Chidgy's train (Jouef Autorail) C&O RDC, Class 108 DMU plus assorted horribly modern Sprinter type things.
My wife Lesley does all the catering, bakes lots of fruit cakes and makes up and serves all the sandwiches fresh on the day - a very popular part of the show....
All profits are donated to "TheRailway Children" but it is fair to say that the prime motivation for the whole thing is to create a sociable and enjoyable sharing and celebration of a great hobby
Further/full details on website, all most welcome
