Hi Stuart

Apologies for my momentary aberration. When Cynric asked about favourite colour (and boy I bet he wished he'd never started that one) I was in a minority of one in saying maroon, especially for my love of Duchesses, so to have a second vote...

Anyway, did you see this on RMweb?

If anything will ever tempt me to 2mm finescale, this will.

Welcome aboard.

No worries. I did see it thanks, my wife is unconvinced that it's not 4mm or even 7mm ! I'm not sure my eyesight is up to that !

I have yet to think up a convincing back story for 'City of Carlisle' finishing up on the Whithorn branch though (other than I always wanted one when I was a kid and could never afford one !).

Richard as we were only allowed 1 vote I had to go with my own personal favourite but second came maroon.
LMS maroon now your talking the best colour for a kettle. Fully lined and filthy. I have always held a soft spot for the LMS as I was friends with a bloke who made 5" engines amongst others he had a Scot and a 2P both in maroon beautiful and a pleasure to drive, Unfortunately he died and all of his assets were sold with his estate.

And there was me thinking the Blue thing was some sort of WR deisel modellers' in-joke and I'd be fairly safe on LMS territory... Oops.

Fully lined and filthy.

Now you're talking !

Oh the BLUE thing is no joke there are the BLUE elitists and then there are the others. I am from an area dominated by the foremost grouping company the LMS in the shadow of Bescot yard. BR came and then they painted the engines the right colour what more could anyone from the West Midlands want, good location excellent colour. Simples

I spent years hand wringing on scales and prototypes that worked alongside each other and this would never be seen here or with that! I've come to the conclusion it's all rubbish, life's too short, if you want a Coronation alongside your ScR class 26 or what ever then just do it, the only conscience you have to appease is your own, everyone else can go play with their own 'trains' LOL.

I sometimes wonder if there is an inbuilt part of railway modellers that strives to please others first, often at the loss of their own pleasure?

Your problem is that Sir Billy bought the engine and paid for a stock movement to the terminus :) ... only to find that the planning permission for his new holiday camp was for a site further up the road  .

Too right. I really can't explain the Pacer though, I can't even claim to have been drunk when I bought it.

I like that, you've given me an idea. The harbour branch exists largely as an excuse to handle traffic to be dealt with 'off stage' - apart from an unlikely shortbread factory the Portwilliam harbour branch can handle whiskey, fish, quarry traffic, grain and other stuff when I get round to building the stock. The one potential source of traffic I hadn't considered was through trains of Geordies with buckets and spades ...

Forgot about RES livery, they do look nice in PO red, but then I'm biased as they were a former employer of mine (and very good too!) but that livery I think is one of the smarter BR sectors ones around. Hmm scatter gun warning, wonder if there's any 7mm versions available.

Sorry Stuart, way OT now LOL, that's WT scatter gun for you, the more varied the anoraks in ones cupboard, the more level headed and balanced the person I think LOL.

Hi Mickoo,

these are 7mm kits from Peter Clark, the Jaffa one has a Mashima motor and gearbox, the PO one has two ABC Traction motors in one bogie (neither model is with me now) - I'm tempted to do a 4mm Parcels Depot using the Backmann models + a RES liveried 08 & 47 - we'll see.

cheers

Mike
