Class 14 0-4-2 question.

I have a model Cl.14 with boiler topfeed finished in late BR livery.
Did any non-topfeed locos last into the mid 60s.
I cannot find a clear answer on the net.

thanks,
John.

Peto's book on the 14xx covers the history of all the class and when they carried top feed or not with photographic evidence well worth the investment.

Im not sure but looking at this shot it has carried a topfeed at some point judging by the patch http://1450.fotopic.net/p33840705.html

The original poster asked "did any non-topfeed locos last into the mid 60s", I would imagine 1450 met this criteria but as you say 1450 obviously carried a top feed at some stage. Peto's book suggests that boilers were swapped between loco's and that a loco that had top feed could have the boiler replaced without a top feed. A case of checking a photograpgh for the period on interest.

Many thanks for the replies, I will have to look further into the subject.
I had been thinking of a black unlined version .

The Peto book is out of print, but I have a copy and will happily look up any number/livery combinations you want to check out.

I like the progress on your layout too

Simon, thanks for your offer. As I mentioned I would like to finish one in plain black but am unsure if any ran in that finish in the early to mid 60s.
Any suitable number would fit in with my generic layout.

I have a urge to try brush painting so black seems the simple option.

regards,
John.
