Converting Dapol Terrier to S7

The recent articles in the S7 newsletters detailed the conversion of the Ixion locomotives to S7. Looks reasonably straightforward to me, but has anyone done the same to the new Dapol Terrier, ie using replacement Slaters wheels etc? I am thinking of getting a Terrier to convert to S7, but would be grateful for any views before I commit. :)

Mike, instead of sourcing new wheels (which might result in extra work to axles / bearings /drive gear / coupling rods), why not consider having the Dapol wheels simply re-worked to S7 - for example by Eastsidepilot?

......or why not just buy one for the joy of getting such a good model for such a small price, put in a glass case and look at it?

Coat, hat, dropped the bottle of Scotch on the way out.

I have converted one of these Dapol Terriers, I'll be taking it to the Mark meeting saturday week.

Mike, I can convert them to S7 using the Dapol wheels and axles, or if you have a lathe and profile tool it's not a difficult job....well not unless youv'e been on the scotch all night:D

To use Slater's wheels and axles will require re-boring the bearings and re-fitting the nylon gear onto the drive axle. The Dapol axles are 4mm dia. so the gear will have to be bored also.

Fitting S7 gauge wheel sets also means fitting axle spacers to take up side play.

The Terrier I have here http://www.westernthunder.co.uk/index.php?threads/love-lane-b-r-e-c-1956.1835/page-14#post-123228
is for sale.

Thank you for your replies. If I go for a Terrier it will be a working engine probably in a rather run down state. The only glass cabinet I have will be for the bottles of scotch!

Colin.
The Terrier you have for sale sounds interesting, although whether I could bring myself to weather such a lovely model is another matter. I would however be grateful if you could let me know how much you are asking.

Regards
Mike.
