A new straight section of platform was built today, but with a slabbed surface in place of the previous one.....

Can anyone suggest a dead matt varnish, preferably to spray on. Halfords Matt Lacquer isnt matt enough for buildings.

Thanks, but as far as I was aware, Testors Dullcote was unavailable. Google has just confirmed this. My matting agent has gone off so I'm prevented from mixing my own with clear cellulose at the moment.

I've got some Testors Dullcote, I'll bring it over with the grey dust samples.

EDM Models has some Testors Dullcote lacquer available at the moment.
Not sure what you would thin it with though.

They also do Testors Dullcote in a 3-pack spray can but awaiting fresh stocks from the USA.

David ;)

We drove past Carrog yesterday morning, the Dee Valley really is a special part of Wales at any time of the year, even when it's raining! Corwen Exchange Station may be fiction but the essence of the line is there for all to see who know it well.
We were camping nearby last week. I don't know how the tent managed to stand up to the battering it got

When laying one of the sidings, the curved section was made the same as a Peco curved point ~ just in case. To the same end, the new backscene was extended further than necessary ~ just in case! Anyway, I decided over the Bank Holiday an extra siding would be very useful and it will be inclined for fly-shunting...

After sanding down all the layers of cork, we have virgin land waiting to be filled. The old yard kind of fell off the baseboard, but the extension has made space for a goods yard entrance and gate ~ and who knows what else. Varying ground levels can just about be detected on the cork. I'm off to play about with track before deciding where it will go...

WT member PhilH brought one of his locos round today. Not an MGM movie; just a couple of blokes chatting while the camera ran. "No, it won't go over the edge" I said while trying to placate Phil as he saw his loco lurching towards deadmans hole where there ain't no track...

Nothing like the prospect of heavy rain to spur much needed outdoor activity. A 28" long weather tunnel was made this morning. It is of my 'daylight' type with glazed roof, used where there is a scenic overbridge. The gloom of a solid wood roof tunnel would be inappropriate....

When the weatherproof wood coating is dry, some scenery will be added to the inside of the 'tunnel'. In fact I kept some I D Backscene for this very purpose. Continuing scenery helps a lot when photographing the layout, but there is no disguising the garden fence (unless its painted green). A plug fits the end of the tunnel ...

The Llangollen Railway appears to be having its own form of Brexit with the opening date to Corwen being continually put back. It was last mooted as October 1st, but it wouldn't surprise me to see it kicked down the road until next Spring. It has been an expensive construction, but will Corwen bring in extra revenue? It seems to me the extra 2 miles will inevitable lead to a round-trip fare increase, but such things are a sensitive issue when totaling up the cost to a family. Carrog with its tea rooms and amenities has served the railway well since 1996, but the extension to Corwen could well demote this station to yet another rarely used wayside halt like Glyndyfrdwy. Such a waste.

I have long held the view that a move eastwards to connect with the Chester-London mainline at Ruabon would be more businesslike. The fact that this route has been mentioned on a feasibility list for Wales shows that it must still be possible despite obstacles. Speaking as a railway modeller, perhaps I should rename my station (yet again!) to Llangollen Road, a heritage station adjacent to the Ruabon mainline station!

Larry

There was talk of extending back towards Raubon a few years back and there were one or two not insurmountable problems that would need a fair bit of money to resolve and the cooperation of various councils, I can't remember the exact details.
