The Llangollen Railway appears to be having its own form of Brexit with the opening date to Corwen being continually put back. It was last mooted as October 1st, but it wouldn't surprise me to see it kicked down the road until next Spring. It has been an expensive construction, but will Corwen bring in extra revenue? It seems to me the extra 2 miles will inevitable lead to a round-trip fare increase, but such things are a sensitive issue when totaling up the cost to a family. Carrog with its tea rooms and amenities has served the railway well since 1996, but the extension to Corwen could well demote this station to yet another rarely used wayside halt like Glyndyfrdwy. Such a waste.
I have long held the view that a move eastwards to connect with the Chester-London mainline at Ruabon would be more businesslike. The fact that this route has been mentioned on a feasibility list for Wales shows that it must still be possible despite obstacles. Speaking as a railway modeller, perhaps I should rename my station (yet again!) to Llangollen Road, a heritage station adjacent to the Ruabon mainline station!
