I bought the BP/Shell version a year ago. The BP side is always facing the viewer because the tank car was bought with funds from a small pension I have from working for the company in the 1970s. It won’t be allowed into Moor Street, though, only on through mixed goods.

i have several HO tank cars in storage with old American brands, one of which, Cities Service, was also an employer in the late 1970s. The tank cars were by Walthers and came as simple kits for just a few dollars.

i imagine a short rake of Dapol tank cars would look good trundling through Corwen on the way to Dolgelley terminal.

PPC GWR Stone colours arrived this morning, so everything in the goods yard was repainted in matching paint.

The first International Musical Eisteddfod was held in Llangollen in June 1947, planning having started in May 1946. My story is the GWR painters were instructed to repaint all the stations from Corwen to Ruabon in the new post-war all cream style in readiness for the event. The directive said nothing about goods yards, but following a suggestion put forward by a prominent Welsh shareholder, it was agreed the goods yards would be 'smartened up' using stocks of pre-war GWR paint. The 1947 International Eisteddfod was an unqualified success.....

Gates to the entrance to the goods yard were not overlooked and they received a coat of Stone No.1....

The goods shed too got a repaint ~ an LMS shed in GWR territory! The steps, which were subject to heavy wear, were painted chocolate. The painters even removed all traces of wartime white paint from the corners of buildings. Well they would ....

As the 1950's rolled on, the stations got BR(W) brown & cream but no paint brushes licked the goods yard again after 1947.

The surface of the yard is now suitably well-trodden. It's a quiet Sunday teatime and men will be getting out of bed at 5pm after sleeping off the dinnertime ale. Tea will be a light affair using anything left over from dinner, then a fire & brimstone sermon at the local house of worship followed by supper and bed....

Gone are the days!

Larry,
What was the white paint on the corners of the buildings for? Warding off doodle bugs?

I'm guessing it was possibly a safety measure to avoid staff walking into walls in the black out, but what about all the other things that you could bash your head on in the dark

Cheers,
Peter

The corner of that buffer stop for starters would need to be white even in peacetime. Just haven't got round to things. The whole country was plastered with white painted corner stones, kerbstones and street posts when I was young.

The GWR Pagoda hut was also finished today although truth to tell I have no suitable place for it on the layout....

The GWR stone coloured lamp hut never quite fitted in so it is now in well-worn grey-black as I remembered such things...

Pagoda hut looks fine where it is Larry , if it still grates after a couple of weeks then remove it . Any news on the outside ?

No news to report on the outside and not much to report on the inside, except to say that it was something of a landmark achievement to finally cover the last bits of bare baseboard with scenery yesterday.....
WEB Scenics 1.jpg

It is only Woodland Scenics vinyl grass at the moment, which I use as a general base for other textures and which is easily formed with a heat gun....
WEB Scenics 2.jpg

Because of the short sidings, the very small yard looks better with fewer wagons. I'm still trying to come to terms with what I want and what space allows me...:(
WEB Scenics 3.jpg

The coal siding has been blackened, but more will be done once I get a suitable coal lorry. The coal bunkers still need to be stockpiled ......and yard lamps added........ and telegraph poles added....... and a coal office built...

I am not seeing the more recent of Larry's excellent images (I just see their files names); is anybody else having this problem, or is it just me? David

Good morning David,

I can see all of Larry's imagine just fine, so I'm afraid it must be something down at your end, as the saying goes...

All the best,

Martyn.

You're not missing anything at the mo Isambard ha ha... Seriously though, I hope you have managed to sort things out.
Sadly not :-( I still see the text 'WEB Wagon27B.jpg' instead of an image, for example. I am using Firefox; perhaps there's been an 'upgrade' and it will be patched soon. David

David.
I also browse via Firefox and occasionally get the text line instead of the image. Usually, if I've reloaded the page, the images have appeared.

David,

I also get the problem of missing pictures using Win 10 and Firefox. I hit F5 to reload images and that usually works. Sometimes it doesn't and I revisit the thread later when then it seems to work OK. This problem was a topic for discussion a month or two ago with Adrian involved but I don't think there was any resolution of the problem.

A couple of the issues in the past were due to the Firefox updates installing a broken system.

Generally if there problem seeing images a simple "F5" page refresh maybe not enough. If you do a "Ctrl + F5" it should hopefully reload the images as well.

Thanks, Adrian

As a Mac user my wife is always being told by Windows people that if Safari doesn't work, use Firefox. The "blame" society is alive and kicking!

I have had problems with Firefox as well - W10 - and now use Waterfox, an adaptation of an earlier version of FF, but with all its adaptabilities and add ons, and find it works well for my needs.
Usual great images and work, by the way, thanks!
