Wont be long until shes finished  Do I spy some engine room detail in there? I must do a Blue Western at some point. Can I ask whose paint you are using?

Hi Cynric, Yes there is engine room detail, those engine room windows are far to big just to leave . I'm using Railmatch for the blue and humbrol matt 24 for the yellow. Because i spray the whole loco in white primer once i've added the yellow and blue i then fade by rubbing vertically away at the colour. Depending on how much fading depends on how much pressure i rub. If its heavy fade then i will go down to very faded blue/yellow or even to the white primer. Hope this has made sense.

Hi Lancer, really like how you have replicated the damage on the side especially how you have picked out the framework coming through as would happen on the real thing if it was glanced from the side  Was wondering what the story behind this damage on the prototype was? good stuff anyway  Ross...

I think the white primer must make the difference as the blue has that transparency of faded paintwork. I am debating whether to use white or red oxide under the maroon as they tended to go a bit pink as they faded

I hav'nt done a maroon one but i would go with white primer every time as you have said maroon goes to a pinkish colour  As regards the damage to Buccaneer as of yet it is uncertain how she got the damage. However whilst at Laira during 8th march 1971 her nameplate was removed because of the damage sustained to it. She ran for 8 months without a nameplate on one side. Entering Swindon works on the 16th Nov 1971. She stayed there till April 13th and left the works at 15.30 that afternoon. She had had a new nameplate fitted.

I used white as primer under the yellow panels on my 22. Yellow is just awful to paint over any other coulour, especially if it's darker.
I think this model Western is just incredible... the way the accident damage has been done, and the fading paint... absolutely stunning!

THanks for the pics, that should do the trick.I will have a go at something similar. There is of course enough space for a scale engine in there

They do look rather convincing don't they? I think I'd better put some of those on my list of things to do as well. :)

Out of interest Rob, do you know roughly how far behind the windows the theatres sit?

Regards

Dan

Hi Dan , thankyou for those kind words. The theatres are set 10mm behind the windows. This is because i needed to give the impression of the walkway between the engine/boiler and the window. The gap should be slightly greater but i felt that this would stick into the space too much and get in the way when it comes to fitting the sound chip.

Dumb question - what was your source picture? I cant think of one off hand that shows the engines.
The next Western should be a cakewalk after all the research done on this one :D
