once again, thanks guys. It is just a Heljan with working headlights and the radio aerials added, Railmatch paints, Fox RES transfers and numbers, and a little time. As I said earlier, I no longer have it but will be getting a green one soon and that will be reborn as 47 775 Ressaldar which will have a similar treatment to that which I did to 37 057 as well as the headlights etc and will also be DCC (I hope, if I get the wires in the right way!)

regards

Mike

What I can't understand is that according to some people (not on this Forum, I think) the Heljan 47 has some areas & details that are a "complete work of fiction"... apparently the fuel tanks are one, and below the cab windscreens another... I must say it looks like a 47 to me...[/quote:1vog4l8l]
I like to take everything I read in certain areas the model press with a pinch of salt, they look fifty times better than most of the kit built examples I have seen too

I have to agree with that Phil and although the bogies may obviously be a little bit lacking in detail compared with say the MMP kit, I think Heljan have captured the body shape (especially the cabs), very well. It certainly looks like a 47 to me and I wouldn't mind adding one to my fleet in due course.

Hi CME,

do you know of anybody that has done ant of the MMP upgrades, and what were their comments/thoughts after carrying them out?

I did an MMP job on a 47 last year for a customer, it does make a difference, it does involve a fair bit of work. If I had a 47 I would certainly do the bogies and tanks, as they are the weakest parts.

Hi Cynric,

many thanks for that, I'll no doubt be speaking to Dave Parkins shortly.

By the way, he has announced elsewhere, that there are some new loco and wagon kits due for imminent release, as well as the updating of the present main line diesels mainly due to motors that they were designed for being unavailable or on very long delivery.

Hi CME

thanks for the reply, I'll ponder for a while

CME wrote - "I may have to stretch and get his 08 before prices/VAT goes up". - that is a definite on my list - the 09 version for 09 024.

Meanwhile, back to the MLV.............

I have an 08 in the pile
The 47 isnt the only kit that has restricted access for maintenance! You have to decide if you want a loco for a big layout ie one that will cover real distance or just something to potter up and down a plank, then engineer accordingly. but that comes down to your thoughts in the Western windows thread......

That is looking stunning, Dan    I'll have to steal your ideas when it comes to doing the windscreens on the 37.

Thanks Martin - glad you like them.  :)  I look forward to seeing the 37's windscreens (and the rest of the loco!), in due course.

That's beautiful work Dan. I'll be following your lead when building Monitor, Consort and Invader, and will be changing Governors cabs too when time allows. Really, really nice. I should think you're delighted with the results of your work and attention to detail here....... I certainly would be.

Thanks Ian for your very kind words (and to CME and Rob for the additional votes of approval).  :)

I certainly am delighted with the results so far, but probably more so because I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now and although I've been modelling for as many years as I can remember, I've only ever finished one thing (and that was back in 1986 - see below).

Seeing the bare resin cabs from a JLTRT Western when I visited Telford about 4 years ago, was what prompted me to ditch 4mm (P4) and join the big boys.  Western's are such fantastic looking locos and the JLTRT kit has captured the look extremely well.  That said though, having bought the kit, I still saw room for a few tweaks here and there and with a bit of TurboCAD knowledge under my belt, I started to design a few bits and pieces that would hopefully improve the look of this model. (I'm also doing etches for other projects, but that's another story).

All being well, once I get my sound decoder back from SWD after Telford, I'll make a concerted effort to get Rifleman finished this side of Christmas.  :)

As for my only finished project to date, it's this scratchbuilt 4mm scale WW2 pillbox?.

Hi Dan,

Funnily enough, it was just the same for me. It was seeing the completed kit at Warley which switched me over to 7mm rather than following my father down the P4 route. I ordered "Governor", and the rest is history. I'm well and truly hooked now, and have completed 4 JLTRT kits (Western, Class 25/1, Class 37 and Class 40), with their Class 50 (50041) now taking shape too.

Lancer1027 will be pleased to know that Monitor will be next in the workshop to be followed by 2x Class 20's and then Consort and Invader. By that time I should have plucked up the courage to attempt the MMP Class 08 and then.. eek... the DJH A3 ("Salmon Trout") or B17 ("Sheffield Wednesday") which sums up my other hobbies! Like you say - so much modelling and so little time!

I love the Pill Box by the way.... a great addition to any sea-side layout I'd have thought. The 7mm version is coming along nicely.

Cheers for now,

Ian.

It’s been a long time coming, but I’ve finally glued "Rifleman's" cabs and sides together!....

SNV34974.JPG

SNV34975.JPG

I was going to glue the roof on as well, but the roof profile doesn't quite match the cab profiles - If the cantrail area curves on the cabs and roof are flush with each other, the raised panels along the centre of the roof are also flush where they meet the cabs, whereas they should be higher by the thickness of the raised panels, if you get my drift?

It’s as if the roof is a little flatter than it should be and given how long ago I bought the kit, I wouldn’t be surprised if it had kind of distorted. On the other hand, it could have something to do with the tongues on the sides and the grooves on the underside of the roof, being out of alignment. (Rob – you’ve built at least four whizzos - did you have any problems with your roof/cab alignments please?). I may well have to contact Laurie and ask nicely for a replacement roof....

Anyway, once I've got the roof problem sorted one way or the other, I can start the filling and painting process - I'm looking forward to seeing these coupled together at some point....

More news as it happens and hopefully, in less than four years! :))
