Apologies for posting this question here....

Dan, thinking through how to fit fibre-optics to a JLTRT Cl.37 and recalled that you wrote something "over-there", well actually here . The images do not appear so the best bit is missing  .

Any chance of providing the photos? Or doing a tutorial on WT?

thanks, Graham

Hope your feeling chuffed Dan - two votes for you to revive your subject over here.

BTW - can a diesel driver ne "chuffed"? what is the up-to-date equivalent on the railways?

Graham - I don't know why the images are missing from the RMweb pages, but it might be worth asking Andy York to take a look at it.

Meanwhile, over here, Cynric archived a lot of my stuff that may well include what you're looking for. There's a link to it from this page....

http://www.westernthunder.me.uk/index.php?threads/dans-old-workbench-thread.59/

Unfortunately, I got an error message when I clicked on the link and imagine you'll get the same. Perhaps Cynric will try and fix it when he gets a few minutes spare?

I'd always thought it would be nice to re-start all my threads over here, but simply haven't had the time to do so yet. Come to think of it, I still don't have the time - sorry!

Thank you Dan...

As you surmised, I got an error message when clicking the link in the post by Cynric. Mind you, I did not understand what Cynric was saying in regard to whole web pages.

Cracking "fix"....daft question but how much lead did you put into the wagon (is that what their classed as?) just so future users know how much is too much.

Thanks

Hi Gareth

Originally, I put about 14oz of lead inside, but that turned out to be way too much, so I've reduced the weight to about 7oz now.

The Gauge O Guild's web site contains small piece on weighting rolling stock. They do suggest that adding a consistent amount of weight to items of plastic rolling stock is beneficial (particularly if stock is to be propelled through point work) and I think it's worth quoting their summary here: "We recommend that model rolling stock should weigh not less than 1 gram per millimetre of vehicle length (equal to approximately 1 oz/in), with a minimum weight of 125 gm (4.4 oz)".

On that basis, my PMV should weigh in at 8 3/4 oz, but as there are still a few castings and things to be fitted, it'll probably be somewhere close to that once finished. :)

Hi Dan, are you going to make these etches (for the Slaters PMV) available?

Len Cattley

Hi Len

Apologies for the late response to your question, but I didn't realise my thread had been "activated" again until this evening!

It's always been my intention to make these etches available to interested parties, but I'd like to tweak the artwork to include some spacing washers before getting another batch made.

If anyone is interested in buying some, please PM me and let me know how many you'd like and I'll be able to order a batch according to demand. There might be a bit of a time lag mind, as spare time is a bit thin on the ground here lately! Also, I don't know how much they'll be at the moment, but they shouldn't break the bank. :)

1st January 2013

A Happy New Year to one and all!

The last few hours of 2012 were spent doing a little more work to one of my many CAD drawings, in this case, replacement clasp brakes for the Slater’s PMV/CCT. The ones supplied with the kit are clunky plastic mouldings, that don’t really do it for me. This was the state of play a few minutes before midnight….

A prototype picture for reference….

Obviously, I now need to make copies, add some sprues and get them 3D printed. I do intend to make them available to interested parties, but it probably won’t be for a considerable while, due to severe restraints on my spare time for the foreseeable future. As and when there’s news of their availability, I’ll post something on the forum.

They look great, if they ever got "printed off" at 1/32 I'd be up for a few:))

An excellent start to 2013:thumbs:

It would work as a master, but I think it may be a little fragile just to print and use. Maybe adding some provision for a piece of brass wire to act as a reinforcement might be a good idea?

I see where you're coming from and whilst the printed parts probably will be quite brittle, I imagine the transverse brake yokes will make them robust enough. Only time will tell....!

Hi Dan,

I did not realise until I started building some coaching stock just how many coach kits there are that do not include any brake detail, even stand alone bogie kits don't always have any brake detail supplied, maybe you could help fill the niche in the market ;).

ATB,

Martyn.
