Dapol O Gauge Loco

Just heard from a friend who supplied Dapol with drawings for their 4mm Class 22 who told me that they are doing diesels in O gauge and their first model is going to be 10000/1

 Seems a strange choice for an intro to a new scale?.. unless they're aiming at Collectors..? :(

Reminds me of the Heljan Hymek - a nice loco, but a more popular/common Class might've sold better..?

Exactly, I won't be buying one. Not sure what they should do instead, class 25/40/08? Any suggestions?

I would have thought one from a 44/45/46 variety would be a good bet? Minimal differences between the classes, got around the country well, did all sorts of work from express passenger to local trip workings and ideal for layouts from steam days up to their eventual withdrawal in good old BR blue :D They even survived into departmental work as well,

Good shout there Mark, i have to agree 44/45/46 would be a good choice but i also think an 08 and 40 would be good sellers:thumbs:

After making a decent fist of a 4mm Cl 22.... why not Big Brother? (or is that something which WTs do not watch on the one-eyed monster?)

Oh well, if thats true it will save me some money.... I was hoping for a 22, but I'll already have enough on my hands getting a HJ 31 and 52 past SWMBO ;)

Good luck to them anyway, the more 7mm manufacturers the better!

44's didn't get about much, but 45 & 46 would be a good choice........ as would class 25/1 25/2 & 25/3

I think 1000o 10001 were one of PRMRP biggest sellers, so perhaps it would do well........not for me though:(

Whilst I'd love a Peak it would most likely be too big for anything I'm ever going to build.
However I'd definitely buy a class 25 if it was good enough i.e. looks like it should!

24 or 25 would be good as the only option at the moment for a Derby type 2 is the JLTRT kit and financially out of reach of many by the time the kit is built & powered.

'Ere we go again ...all this is starting to sound like one of those pathetic wishlists on t'other place........why don't we just ,as Mr.Baldwin used to say (or was it Asquith).....'wait and see' ;)

I don't think this is a oo style wish list TBH. When model manufacturers are actually putting feelers out so they can see what those of us who actually buy them want. Heljan have been doing this since Telford with the proposed Western or Class 14 & have opted for the Western with the feedback they have already received & Dapol are doing the same with their future O gauge releases.

Phill,

A good point - added to which I understand from comments posted on the 7mm Yahoo group that the loco is likely to be steam outline. Adding that info to my belief that Lionheart and Dapol are produced in the same Chinese factory I'd be aiming for a more lowly prototype and to good quality with sound/DCC built in.

Therefore, with no particular axe to grind I'd be thinking in terms of:
Jinty, 57xx, 14xx, Peckett X, J72, or things of that ilk. Something like an Ivatt 2MT wouldn't be too much of a leap for me, but I can't believe it'd be anything bigger than that...

The Lionheart pannier shows what can be done and sells well.

Logic dictates that Dapol, having already tooled up to produce a range of O gauge private owner wagons would be thinking of producing a suitable loco to compliment them....but hey! ....what do I know ? ,

I received my new Tower catalogue the other day. Under Dapol it lists "an SR/BR tank locomotive, followed by a diesel shunter and then a small GWR tank loco". But just as interesting to me is the promise of "a range of electrically operated signals due to be released later this year". Is it too much to hope for Western Region tubular post semaphores? :)

Hmm, tricky one that. There aren't many SR tank locos that would have wide enough appeal to be worth producing r-t-r. Logic would dictate a Terrier, but with three (soon to be four) kits ranging from the 'buildable' to 'excellent' and with the San Cheng brass one I can't think it'd be commercially viable. Perhaps it could be an E4 0-6-2t, if only because I can't think of another SR/BR tank loco that ran on all three sections of the Southern...

I would have thought that an M7 would be quite popular among Southern fans ?
