Website Derelict London

Thank you Neil. That'll keep me occupied for several weeks!

There's something gripping about old and derelict buildings. The history of each of the businesses on this site is really helpful. When I was working I was privileged to visit many such locations in the UK and abroad. I'm sure Steph will remember several visits to London Docklands following one of my visits as a result of being on a movie shoot, before they were gentrified. I always found them so much more interesting than the countryside. I particularly remember Becton Gasworks during the shooting of Full Metal Jacket. A gas works with palm trees? If anyone could arrange it Kubrick could!

Sadly (or not) I'm old enough to remember the Pool of London full of ships, and I discovered that I needed spectacles as a result of being unable to read the name of a ship alongside what is now County Hall when on a visit with my father - something we did very often as an old East End family. I still remember the name of the ship - "Baltrover".

Hi Mick.

That's the one. I can visualise it now across the river. I was standing in front of the Tower of London. I guess it was around 1956 when I saw her.

No need for a full size shot, but thanks for the offer Mick. It's imprinted on my memory!

Warning: Just after clicking on Mick's link to the ship spotting image of the Baltrover my antivirus program kicked in telling me that it had blocked a couple of attacks and removed something harmful from my computer. No other program was open, no other pages were running concurrently and Western Thunder has been my first port of call after starting up the pc (my home page is google). I don't know enough to say if Mick's link is contaminated or not, but perhaps approach with caution until given the all clear by someone more expert than me.

Thanks for highlighting that @Neil - I've amended to remove the direct hyperlink.

On my initial investigations it does seem that the website does have a hidden link which points to a known malware site. However it seems that the link is only active for mobile users and is sending user referrer data. - hence I've sort of disabled the direct link with a warning.

So I'd be interested in which antivirus program you are using that picked it up. The sites I used to check the website not all of them spotted the problem including Norton.

Odd, despite going there for six, possibly more years I've never had an issue flagged up, here at home or on the works PC's.

I ran my AV and malware again and still didn't pick anything up, not that that is anything to go by.

I've deleted the post, easier that way, it's served it's purpose to show Brian an image of the vessel.

That's interesting. I had a warning as well. Certainly the site is signed as "Not secure".

It's an interesting site but best kept clear of at the moment, I guess.

Norton Antivirus picked it up when I used the link yesterday. The Malware looked like Bitcoin miner.

I use Norton antivirus which as I mentioned above kicked in when I left the site rather than when I clicked on it. Not sure if that's significant or not.

Neil - you may enjoy this website A View of Hull
Most of the stuff in the photos has long gone.

Jeff

You're right Jeff, I am enjoying it. Rather taken with the photos of Goole too, partly because my dad is a Goolie and partly because I have happy memories of a primary school trip to the docks where we wandered about on the quay sides, over the lock gates, watched the Tom puddings doing their stuff, all without hi-vis clobber or any form of risk assessment.
