Correct or otherwise, I hope that you have more than those snippets to show us.
Correct, Great Central Railway Robinson class 9K 4-4-2 tank. Sorry, only snippets.

Two more 1920s London.

Where? Locomotive?

Midland Railway, but where?

And how do you achieve convincing smoke?

As I guessed the last "engine" from Fraser I shall be posting a new puzzle later tonight... or rather, in the sense of expanding the possibilities, I shall post a mystery photo of a kettle and a mystery photo of am oiler. Sorry, I have no photos of sparkies.

The GC tank loco is ( nerdy pedant mode on !)...actually a class 9L ( C14 ). On the first photo you can see the capping strip that ran along the bunker top going all the way to the cab opening as on this class the bunker and water tanks were wider than the cab. On the 9K the cab platework was flush with the tanks / bunker sides.
On the second photo the water filler is at the front of the tank....on the 9K ( C13 ) the filler was nearer the cab than the tank front....( pedant mode off !!)
Cheers Tony.

Thanks Tony, I stand corrected.

Clue? A classic design, this particular engine is going to celebrate a centenary in a few years.

Clue? Too easy for this forum.

Tony, your question could just as easily be applied to a photo of a nut and bolt... tsk, tsk. Looks to me that the engine in your picture has a turbo mounted on top of the block, so what is the class of loco had the engine in your photo?

The only engines I can think of with that kind of induction arrangement are Maybach; and the reason why neither Westerns nor Warships have horizontal drive shafts...

It seemed the only engine which had a similar style of cover plate. It is I believe a Class 52 -photo shown with roof of and engine in-situ.

With all due respect, do your photos not depict an oiler and an oiler? :D

P.S. I finally have a photo for the competition (busy week….)

Tony is correct, my photo of an internal combustion engine is of a Maybach within a Cl.52, the locomotive being D1062. Photo taken in July 2012 courtesy of @D1054.

Yee Haa. While we wait for the lubricator expert to identify Graham's 1st pic, here are a couple of shots of a leser known engine.

I'm not inclined to offer a clue at this stage….

Sorry - right industry, wrong location. Hatcham Ironworks - not heard of that so had a quick google. I may be gone some time….

Those images are a bit fuzzy - you might say not too sharp ;)

To wrap up the A4 photo from a few days back, here is a pikkie which shows where the frame-bogie-check can be found:-

Now to the photo of the Maybach - rather than post the original, given the interesting pikkie from Tony and the comment from Steph, here is a different shot of the same engine and one which shows the turbo in position.
