Hi all,

thought I'd slip this one in whilst the Guv is in a mellow holiday mood, just a bit of judicious weathering to do once the cylinder lub pots have been fitted.

It is one of Pete Stampers Agenoria kits but with an Maxon/ABC Gearbox rather than the usual Mashima. Wonderful little kits that go together so well they should be recommended as the ideal introduction into O Gauge.

That looks lovely Mike.
How does it run? I have just got a couple of Maxon/ABC boxes for my DJH A3 and MOK 8F but I have never used them before (I haven't yet completed an O gauge loco).

Hi Rob,

sweet as a nut. I try and use the ABC gearbox/Maxon combination for my steam locos as I consider them to be the right combination. The MOK Southern Q1 uses it and the gearing/power ratio is superb, so your 8F should be no problem. Also used one in a DJH Clan with the same results.

Look forward to seeing the build progress some time.

Mike

Thanks Mike, I think it will be the A3 first particularly as there are a few A3 threads about at the moment if I run into trouble. I am going to try to finish a few of the ongoing 4mm projects as well as my scratch build before starting anything new (or so the wife tells me). I will whenever I get started post lots of photos. Do you have thread anywhere for your Q1?

When I was ordering my 8F Dave Sharp mentioned that he may look at an LNER D49 in the next year so I may have to have a look at one in the future when I have reduced the pile somewhat.

Hi Rob,

started thread here http://www.rmweb.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=51002 but the finish fell into the ether so here are a couple of photos for you.

as I said earlier, a real joy to build and I'll probably be getting the 4MT tank and the tender version when that comes out.

best of luck with the A3 - you may need it if my Clan experience was anything to go by :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

Hi guys,

the lub pots arrived from Laurie Griffin and the weathering has taken place..............in the Plymouth area June 1945 - peace now and there is every prospect of time to clean the engine at last

Thanks Mike they both look superb.

I think I may have to beat myself up somewhat to get mine dirty like that. I have not really had go at weathering so it still comes into dark art territory (but then again so did soldering and I have mastered that  ).

Hi Rob,

glad you like them, I'm about to start another Q1 when I finish the Inspection Saloon I'm now on.

[attachment=0:vfbob1ti]IMG_1014.JPG[/attachment:vfbob1ti]

The best way to delve into weathering is to get a cheap wagon at a swap meet and use that as your 'guinea pig' try using powders etc fitrst, wash them off, start again, and then when you have done that a few times and you are back to square one, try the airbrush with frame dirt from the bottom up and roof dirt from the top down and then apply thinners and let it run down the sides, leave to dry and then start with the powders/Tamiya blocks and you off and running - just adjust the technique to the model you are doing and you will never look back.

The Q1 is on my todo list but at the moment I need another kit like I need a hole in the head

is the weather that hot in Devon then

As an aside, I saw on another forum yesterday that Pete STamper has 'passed on' the Agenoria range to Mike Williams - no doubt full details will emerge in the fulness of time, but great to know that the range is continuing.

I wouldn't mind one of those myself, but does the kit lend itself to building in S7?

Dan

Hi Captain,

many thanks for the comment, much appreciated.

Hi Dan,

I think that the comments in the instructions regarding the inside motion would preclude S7 as the kit is designed at present, but a phone call to Dave at MOK would sort your querry out.

I hope these show the problem. It's a case of either/or with the lower cylinder guides from memory. I'll let you know when I get to it on the next build.

Mike

For a lover of the Callington branch I could almost go over to 7mm just to build this kit, such a lovely piece of work.

Hi Nick,

many thanks for your comments.

I am now selling both of the Agenoria locos to fund my new layout - they will be on the Bring & Buy stand at Telford.

So you have an opportunity to 'cross the line' to O Gauge.

I'd overlooked the fact that I had this thread going, so I have edited out the loco pictures from the Engineer's Inspection Saloon and am re-posting them here. I gave it a run at the North Wales and West Cheshire Group running session today and it rput in a fairly good performance. It's fitted with an 1833 Mashima and Roxey Omega 40:1 gearbox and Slater's drivers.

They look well together Mike, you obviously didn't get any takers from RMWeb I am surprised when you see what loco's fetch on ebay etc. It must be the thrill of the chase.
