The face of the PWP/RJH Warship looks nothing like the real thing, without major surgery IMO, one of the problems was the whitemetal nose was simply wrong. if the front was re-designed it could have been a good kit but sadly it was withdrawn instead.Andrew Thompson said:All
The origins of this kit go back to Dave Parkins original kits in the late 70's . I actually built one but long a go sold on.
I thought with a bit of work they made upto into a good representaion . The original kit had nickel silver window etches and doorsteps etc. The downside was that the whitemetal cab roof casting was to small and required a lot filling . Yes they were basic but there was nothing else at the time and cheaper than the Malcom M kit which soon went out of production until reintroduced by Model Express .

Well they probably wouldn't satisfy some rivet counters, but I think they make up into a quite reasonable loco for not a lot of cash with a bit of filling & a few after market partsCME & Bottlewasher said:I recently had a look at the Model Express Warship - demonstartor - on their stand, and it had a lot of air-holes/bubbles/deformation in and around the cab etc. is this model ever worth a punt/how much work is involved? The DJH version is too heavy and too pricey to my mind - each to their own though
Thanks,

That one just has scratchbuilt extra detail (cabs, grills etc. ) Roblancer1027 said:I quite agree Phill, not a bad kit for the money from what i've seen. You have made a fantastic job on yours mate. What extra bits did you have to get ?
I wouldn't bother with the resin bogies, mine has PRMRP etch bogie frameswesternfan said:For roughly 80 quid you cant go wrong i fancy having a go at making their wickham trolley . Phill  did you have any problems with those solid resin bogie blocks ?
That gap exists for the whole of British O scale, as far as I'm concerned...!!! :lol:CME & Bottlewasher said:There seems to be a 'mid-price-range' gap in the market for Warships,
CME & Bottlewasher said:Whilst I am not a rivet counter, the demo model really was awful, in my humble opinion, and the window surrounds were very badly deformed and pitted/air-holes, as were all the grills etc. etc. etc. Whilst ?80 is very appealing (?150.00 'all in' for wheels etc..) and I agree that the brass motor-bogie subframes from PRMRPs is a great idea I know of the El Crappo philosophy, yet sanding, cutting, filing, whilst satisfying in the long run when a good end result is achieved, is, for me, now becomeing a bit of a chore. As an 'O' gauge modeller, on a tight budget, such is my bread and butter, yet I long for 'Tamiya quality' kits
Looking at your lovely model in the phots. the cab ends on your Warship look very good - even in preparation - was it as bad as the demo model to start with (I know that could be a;- 'a how long is a piece of string question')??
There seems to be a 'mid-price-range' gap in the market for Warships, am I right in thinking that there is only the DJH kit and the MRE resin kit? Perhaps JLTRT will develop one soon?
Thanks again and all the best.
