G scale Mk1 Coach

G scale Mk1 Coach livery

Thanks Ian, Ill be happier when it gets to the primer stage. I'm always happier when they are grey, they just look so much more solid !

COLOURS !>!>!

When I started the build I chose a 57' suburban because of its short length being suitable for my tight curves. My favourite coach livery is blue and grey, perhaps its an age thing ? After research if I have read correctly, suburban stock never had blue grey livery. Early years saw them in maroon with later life bringing on a solid blue look. So question.. what would be most appropriate to be seen behind a 25 in blue ??? My thoughts would probably be blue but more experienced advice would be appreciated.

All the pics I have seen of them show them on Kings Cross suburban services usually hauled by class 31's (they were never blue/grey) . Blue would be appropriate behind a blue diesels, but I would have thought they may have run in maroon behind blue diesels in the late 60's-early 70's ?

Not much to show for tonight's efforts, hinges and guttering.

I don't mean this in a derogatory way at all, John, but I have saved this clip, as watching these models go around those corners always makes me smile, for some reason... :D

Superb work, though- I admire your patience in cutting out so many windows, for one thing!!!

I'm in no rush to cut out any more windows thats for sure !!!

And the corners are somewhat "unfortunate" but in this scale Id need a MUCH bigger garden to have prototypical sweeps so Ill just live with my cheep and cheerful reversing loops :)

The best bit of any model is adding the details , well its the bit I like best anyway.

Last night I added the starts of the hinges, today they have been shaped a bit and some notches filed in to make them a little more hinge like.

I have also made some door handles that need a little more shaping, and the door stops.

Finally I have bent up some welding wire to make the grab handles

Today has been one of those Saturdays when I hoped to get a decent bit of modelling time but didn't.

In the 20 mins I did escape to the shed I decided a coat of primer was in order. I find it helps to find what needs attention.

Hopefully It will just need a light rub to get it right in most places.

Today has seen some more fiddly bits.. Ill let the pictures do the talking but things to look for, door grab handles, end details, buffers, battery box.

What a superb pair the loco and coach make, a really magnificent achievement

A really inspiring and motivating thread too, and a wonderful antidote to 4mm RTRitis on the one hand and my own navel gazing and pontificating on the other

Just brilliant

I've spent a couple of days in London. 12 days ago we took our 16 year old daughter up to Newcastle to join the youth crew on a "Tall Ship"  the Stavros S Niarchos. She spent the last 12 days sailing the North sea, including a stop in Holland. The climax was coming up the Thames yesterday afternoon and under Tower bridge. More info on my external blog

We got home today mid afternoon and I have only spent half an hour in the shed tonight, a couple more details added, lamp brackets and  guards hand rails on the ends.
